Rangers v Hibernian: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Rangers have gone four weeks without a Scottish Premiership game and the Light Blues will be determined to take care of business when Hibs visit Govan on Saturday afternoon.

Last time out on Glasgow's southside, Gers were left stunned as Motherwell claimed all three points at the start of March.

Philippe Clement's side have done well since, despite exiting Europe, and can count a 2-0 win over an ill-disciplined Hibs amongst their achievements in the Scottish Cup.

Before all eyes turn towards next Sunday and the visit of champions Celtic, the Ibrox side must put three points on the board to maintain their status as title favourites.

Rangers v Hibernian betting tips and predictions

Rangers Half Time/Full Time @ 4/5

The wheel turns full circle for Clement on Saturday afternoon. Back in October, Hibs were the first visitors to Ibrox as the Belgian took charge of a Rangers side in bit of a tailspin after Michael Beale had lost three league games out of seven.

Steven Gerrard's former assistant navigated a mere 10 months in the turbulent waters of the hotseat on his own.

The Light Blues were already seven points behind leaders Celtic in the Scottish Premiership and had been booed from the field after a 3-1 home reverse against an Aberdeen side who have gone on to endure some troubled waters of their own.

Toss in a shock Europa League defeat in Cyprus to Aris Limassol and things were gloomy when Clement touched down in Scotland. Fast forward barely six months and it is a very different tale.

Rangers have prospered under Clement, backing up a 3-0 win at St Mirren in his first game with a 4-0 thrashing of Hibernian in Govan in his second.

Clement has lost only one of his first 29 games in charge, reducing that seven-point deficit behind Celtic despite losing to the Bhoys at Parkhead in December, while also navigating a tough Europa League group stage that culminated with a gutsy 3-2 away win over Real Betis in December.

The month of March has yielded one win in four thus far, but an away draw in Portugal against a strong Benfica side and a single-goal home reverse were credible after suffering that shock loss against Well here.

Clement has faced Hibs on three occasions since he took over, twice in the league and in this month's Scottish Cup win, with the aggregate score reading 9-0 to Rangers. The combined half-time outlook in that trio of games was 5-0 to Gers.

With Celtic next to visit Ibrox, this is a 'must-win' for Rangers and they should get the heavy lifting done in the opening stanza again, so while they are a skimpy 2/7 for the win, it's worth trusting them to be in front at half-time on route to three points.

James Tavernier to score anytime at 7/4

The scoring prowess of Rangers captain James Tavernier is widely acclaimed, with the English full-back now through a century of goals. His penalty-taking duties are a help, but he is also a tremendous free-kick specialist.

The overall dominance Rangers tend to exert in domestic games allows their skipper license to get forward and plenty of Tavernier's goals have come in open play.

All that said, Hibs have conceded nine Scottish Premiership penalties already this season, just one short of the benchmark and the Edinburgh side were ill-disciplined earlier in the month when these sides clashed in the cup.

That game included that rarest of occurrences - a spot-kick miss from Tavernier.

Hibs boss Nick Montgomery says his team have learned from that loss, but they will come under fierce scrutiny in Glasgow with Rangers intent on a win. Tavernier will have learned, too, should he get a free shot from 12 yards.

Over 3.5 Total Goals @ 6/5

A comfortable home win is likely, but Hibs will want to leave some kind of mark after three limp efforts against Clement's side this season.

The Hibees have scored more goals (25) in their 14 away league games this season than the 21 tallied in 16 outings at Easter Road. They have hit the net nine times in four away outings of late.

Rangers, meanwhile, have conceded in four of the last six in the Scottish Premiership and Hibs can register this time, but the hosts should still have daylight in the end, so over 3.5 goals looks to be a solid play.
