Scottish Premiership giants Rangers are being linked with a shock move to bring Borussia Dortmund's Gio Reyna to Ibrox this summer.
Bursting onto the scene with Bundesliga side Dortmund in 2020, Reyna was previously regarded as one of the most promising young players in Europe.
The United States international has struggled to become an established first team player at Dortmund, however, spending the second half of last season on loan at Premier League side Nottingham Forest.
Contracted at Dortmund until June 2026, the German side may look to cash in this summer rather than allow the creative midfielder to depart the club for free.
Rangers are reportedly one of several teams interested in Reyna’s signature, along with LAFC in his homeland of the United States.
A move to Ibrox would see the 22-year-old follow in the footsteps of his father, with former United States captain Claudio Reyna making 94 appearances for Rangers between 1999 and 2001.
Although Reyna has been unable to nail down a consistent place in Dortmund’s starting XI, he has notably shone at international level for the United States – scoring eight goals in 32 appearances to date.
Reyna was a key player for the United States in their victorious CONCACAF Nations League campaigns in 2023 and 2024 and was named the best player of the tournament in the latter.
Rangers are expected to be under new American ownership ahead of the new season, with San Francisco 49ers investor Paraag Marathe and health insurance tycoon Andrew Cavenagh agreeing a deal in principle to take control of the club back in March.
The potential signing of United States international Reyna is likely to be hugely appealing to Rangers’ incoming owners, with Dortmund’s number seven a well-known footballing talent on the other side of the Atlantic.
Rangers supporters will be hoping Reyna could be one of a number of exciting new additions this summer as the Gers aim to wrestle the Scottish Premiership title back from Old Firm rivals Celtic in the 2025/26 campaign.
