Rangers v Dundee: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Philippe Clement will have to lift his Rangers team after Saturday’s Old Firm despair as they prepare to take on Dundee at Ibrox on Tuesday.

Victory for the Light Blues would at least ensure Celtic have to wait 24 hours before getting the title party started, and Rangers won’t be taking lightly a Dundee side who drew with them just a few weeks ago.

Rangers v Dundee betting tips and predictions

Rangers and Under 3.5 goals - 7/5

It was a 0-0 draw for Rangers at Dundee in the week before the split, hot on the heels of a 3-2 defeat at Ross County, which handed Celtic a timely edge in the title race.

Fast forward a few weeks and with Celtic preparing to celebrate, Rangers can at least avenge that mis-step at Dens Park by beating Dundee back on home soil.

And everything points to Rangers winning this easily. They had won eight in a row against the Dark Blues before last month’s goalless draw, and Tony Docherty’s side have lost all three matches since then, culminating in a 3-0 drubbing at Hearts on Saturday.

Clement has to lift his team for the task but with the title - mathematically at least - still not lost, and this the final game of the season at Ibrox, you’d expect the home side to have plenty to play for.

And the Gers' record at Ibrox is more than decent this season. They have only failed to score once on home soil - against Benfica - since the start of September and have banged in at least two goals in 17 of their last 22 home matches. One of those was a 3-1 win against Dundee.

John Lundstram is suspended after being sent off for a terrible foul, condemned by Clement, at Celtic.

But the Belgian has built a strong squad with more than enough depth to take care of a Dundee side who are now without a win in six and haven’t beaten a top-six side since the middle of November.

Indeed, they haven’t won away at a top-six team all season. There is nothing in that record to suggest they warrant support, even at fancy odds of 16/1. But they won’t want to roll over and the Gers might have lost some of their appetite anyway, hence the idea of a low-scoring Rangers win.

James Tavernier Anytime Goalscorer - 5/4

Clement will feel compelled to make a few changes against Dundee after conceding his team looked out on their feet after battling against Celtic with 10 men for the entire second half following Lundstram’s red card.

One man who is undroppable is roving right-back, dead-ball specialist and top scorer James Tavernier.

The Englishman is 5/4 to score at any time, something he has done in 21 different matches this term.

Tavernier is enjoying his best-ever goalscoring campaign with 17 goals in the Premiership, plus four more in the domestic cups and another three in Europe.

If the title race is, as expected, decided this week, Tavernier may well be mothballed at the weekend ahead of the Scottish Cup final, but he can add to his scoring tally against Dundee this week.

Over 2.5 Dundee corners - 5/6

Dundee can’t buy a win since the split but Docherty’s men have had little difficulty acquiring corners.

In the 2-1 home defeat to Celtic they amassed eight corners, in the 3-1 home loss to St Mirren another four and even getting battered 3-0 at Hearts at the weekend they chalked up five.

They average 4.7 corners per game this season, 4.2 on their travels, and against a leggy Rangers should be trusted to win at least three at Ibrox.
