Glasgow's big two meet at Ibrox on Thursday afternoon, with Rangers under intense scrutiny having slipped 14 points behind Scottish Premiership champions Celtic.
Light Blues boss Philippe Clement is closing in on some unwanted history as he struggles to get the better of Celtic, while in the opposite dugout Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers continues to rewrite Glasgow derby history.
Celtic to win - 6/5
Celtic boss Rodgers has a majestic record in this fixture in his two spells as boss of the Parkhead side.
Last month's League Cup final win - via penalties - means Rodgers has overseen 20 Old Firm games as manager and has been beaten just once. An 80 per cent winning record in the midst of all the madness and mayhem that goes with this fixture is quite stunning.
Celtic have scored first in nine of the last 10 meetings, a clear problem for Gers and even when the Light Blues did get in front in that League Cup final, they were soon overhauled and twice had to level it themselves to force extra-time.
Belgian boss Clement is yet to beat Celtic in six attempts in all competitions in charge of the Gers - not since the 1890s has a manager of either club gone longer waiting for success in the fixture.
Since the League Cup decider, after which Clement's side could have at least felt the performance was something to be content with, Rangers have edged Dundee 1-0 at Ibrox, lost to St Mirren and come from 2-0 behind to draw at Motherwell.
Oscar Cortes, Kieran Dowell and Danilo were brought in by Clement at Fir Park, but the Gers boss doesn't appear to have a go-to strongest XI. As if things weren't bad enough, skipper James Tavernier has been ruled out by injury leaving the hosts short at the back.
Rodgers, meanwhile, has been able to give the likes of Callum McGregor, Nicolas Kuhn and Kyogo Furuhashi rest time over Christmas during successive 4-0 wins over Well and St Johnstone.
The champions are in a good place and their quality may well prevail at Ibrox as they begin the New Year having lost just two of the 50 games they played in 2024.
Over 3.5 Goals - 7/4
With the Ibrox crowd behind them, Gers could lift their game for this derby tussle. They did it at Hampden but their fans will ponder why it happens rather fleetingly and rarely against the Bhoys.
The ongoing lockout of away fans at both grounds for this fixture is an issue the clubs badly need to resolve, but it means a partisan backing for the hosts.
It was 3-3 at Hampden last time and also finished 3-3 here back in April. Celtic are averaging just under three per game in the league but Rangers got right in amongst them in that cup final and will attempt to do likewise.
The hosts know they will probably need a few goals for an upset win and it could be another frantic clash.
Danilo and Daizen Maeda both to score anytime - 14/1
With goals anticipated, a pairing of possible scorers - one from each side - could prove a shrewd move.
Celtic's Daizen Maeda has scored three goals in his last five appearances against Rangers, including in the recent final and also when they last met at Ibrox.
The Japan international is a tireless worker and a key performer who gets plenty of goal chances with his willingness and sheer endeavour.
Meanwhile, Danilo forced extra-time at Hampden three weeks ago with his late header.
The Brazilian scored off the bench at St Mirren in the Boxing Day loss and played all 90 minutes at Fir Park on Sunday. He has four goals in his last six appearances and could be Rangers' main threat again.
