Queens Park Rangers had to wait an age for a victory at Loftus Road, but three have come along all at once for Marti Cifuentes’s side and they will be confident against Watford, who have generally struggled in away matches and saw their long unbeaten home record ended by Cardiff on Sunday.
Queens Park Rangers to win - 6/4
There were rumbles of discontent at Queens Park Rangers when they had failed to win at Loftus Road by the start of December, but Cifuentes’s side have finally found their groove on their own patch and they look well placed to see off Watford on New Year’s Day.
Rangers have got themselves in a decent spell of form, suffering just one defeat in their last nine outings, and three straight home wins over Norwich City, Oxford United and Preston North End have been the highlights as they have finally flourished in front of their own fans.
There looks a strong chance that they will have too much for the Hornets, who have not been as comfortable on their travels than they have at home.
Tom Cleverley’s side suffered their first Vicarage Road loss in 16 league games against Cardiff on Sunday and Rangers became one of only three teams to get something from their trip to Hertfordshire this season when they earned a goalless draw there on November 30.
Away points have been more difficult to come by, and a 6-2 victory at Sheffield Wednesday looks like a freak result, as it is the only away success they have posted in their last ten league matches.
The only other times in that run, when they have earned points, were in draws at bottom-of-the-table Plymouth Argyle and another team who are struggling Hull City, so it would not be a huge surprise if the home side came out on top of this one.
Over 2.5 goals - 1/1
Their November clash at Vicarage Road failed to generate a goal, but it could be a different story in west London as Watford have conceded at least twice in 10 of their last 13 away league games and nine of their last 12 on their travels have all featured more than two goals.
QPR look to have found their shooting boots on their own patch with seven goals in their last two home matches, so confidence should not be an issue for Rangers and they should be expected to get on the front foot from the off.
Sam Field to be booked - 7/4
Rangers midfielder Sam Field looks like a prime candidate to go into the book, which has happened on seven occasions in the Championship this season.
The former West Brom player committed his latest indiscretion in the 1-1 draw at Norwich City on Sunday and was in the thick of the action in the reverse fixture against the Hornets.
On that occasion, he was cautioned when he conceded four fouls, which was a total higher than in any other second-tier appearance he has made this term.
It seems likely he will get in where it hurts again in Wednesday’s clash and he looks good value to pick up yellow card number eight.
