Queens Park Rangers v Plymouth: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Queens Park Rangers and Plymouth Argyle meet in West London with both clubs going in search of a first Championship win.

Rangers were well beaten by West Brom in their opener but hit back from two down at Sheffield United on Saturday to draw 2-2.

Plymouth, who were battered 4-0 at Sheffield Wednesday in their opener, also picked up a point last weekend courtesy of a 1-1 draw with Hull.

Queens Park Rangers v Plymouth betting tips and predictions

Draw - 14/5

QPR and Argyle couldn't be separated last season and another close-run encounter is on the cards at Loftus Road.

Two Championship tussles between them in 2023/24 yielded a 0-0 draw in West London followed by a 1-1 draw at Home Park.

Both eventually stayed up - Plymouth by the skin of their teeth and Rangers thanks to a late revival under Marti Cifuentes - and both will be hoping for a brighter 2024/25.

But whatever unfolds over the course of the season, right now there doesn't look an awful lot to choose between two teams who concede too easily but do carry a threat going forward.

You could make a case for all three outcomes in 90-minute betting but the draw at 14/5 does continue last season's - and last weekend's - theme.

QPR have certainly improved from their desperate 3-1 opening-weekend loss at home to West Brom. The Baggies saw 61 percent of the ball and just toyed with a Rangers' side who were a shambles at the back.

They were more competitive at Bramall Lane in their 2-2 draw against the Blades, carving out 14 of their own chances in an open game. They also gave up 14 chances and five goals conceded in two outings has to be a concern for Cifuentes.

Argyle have been chalk and cheese. They conceded 31 shots and had only five of their own in an absolute no-show at Sheffield Wednesday where they were crushed 4-0. A week later at home to Hull, Wayne Rooney's side were far more of a threat and far tighter in a 1-1 draw.

Rooney is trying to change mindsets and playing style at Home Park and they should be improving week on week as the players buy into the philosophy.

In short, there doesn't look much between two teams destined for bottom-half finishes and the draw as a bet makes, therefore, plenty of sense.

Morgan Whittaker first scorer - 8/1

Rangers' Lyndon Dykes surely brought himself a start with his goal off the bench at Sheffield United last week.

But there will be another prize goalscorer on display who has yet to get off the mark this season and Saturday could be the moment when he delivers.

Morgan Whittaker enjoyed a stellar 2023/24 at Home Park, scoring 19 times off the right flank in the Championship.

Even when the goals dried up at the end of the season he was still a handful to play against and he should enjoy running at this porous Rangers' rearguard.

He was the subject of plenty of transfer speculation earlier in the summer but that seems to have cooled and now he can set about scoring the goals that Argyle will need to stay up.

Over 6.5 QPR Corners - 8/11

Expect a front-foot performance from QPR which may not yield the win they crave but should see them pile up plenty of corners.

Rangers, admittedly chasing both games, chalked up 12 corners at home to West Brom and nine at Sheffield United.

Those are big numbers by any measure and clearly they are likely to dominate at home to Plymouth, just as Sheffield Wednesday did when they played Rooney's Greens at Hillsborough two weeks ago. The Owls piled up 15 corners that day.
