Rangers gutsily came from two down to draw 2-2 at Sheffield United while Argyle took the lead at home to Hull but had to settle for a 1-1 draw.
Last season's matches between two clubs who struggled for most of the campaign ended in draws.

Rangers boss Marti Cifuentes will be without midfielder Jack Colback who is suspended after being sent off at Sheffield United.
Ilias Chair and Morgan Fox are also out while playmaker Lucas Andersen is a doubt after tweaking his groin last week. Paul Smyth and Koki Saito are hoping for starts.
Club captain Joe Edwards will continue at right-back with Iceland international Victor Palsson struggling with a hamstring issue.
Ryan Hardie is expected to continue leading the line as well with Muhamed Tijani, another new signing, also out.
