There is an all-Championship clash in the opening round of the EFL Cup as Preston entertain Sunderland and the hosts are already embarking on the hunt for a new manager.
A 2-0 loss at home to Sheffield United on Saturday saw Preston part ways with manager Ryan Lowe, which means Mike Marsh, accompanied by Peter Murphy and Ched Evans, will take charge of this clash with the Black Cats.
It was the Lilywhites' sixth straight defeat without scoring when you take into consideration the five games lost at the tail-end of the Championship last term.
The Black Cats, meanwhile, started their season in a more positive manner under new French boss Regis Le Bris, recording a 2-0 victory at Cardiff, and they will be eager for more success at Deepdale.

Preston have lost only eight of their last meetings with Sunderland, with them winning their last encounter at Deepdale in the Championship last August 2-1.
Both teams have scored in only two of those last eight rivalries, too, with the Wearsiders keeping clean sheets in three of their last four meetings.
The Black Cats have lost their last three League Cup ties, being dumped out at the first hurdle by Sheffield Wednesday and Crewe in the last two seasons.
After losing 2-0 at home to Sheffield United in their Championship opener, Preston have now suffered six straight league defeats to nil.

Ali McCann and Layton Stewart are both injury doubts for the hosts, having missed the opening-day defeat to Sheffield United.
Defender Dan Ballard remains sidelined, while Ian Poveda is a serious doubt, but the Black Cats can welcome back Pierre Ekwah and Leo Hjelde.
Niall Huggins and Jenson Seelt are also set to miss out.
