Preston North End v Sheffield Wednesday: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Preston North End and Sheffield Wednesday have both been consistent in the Championship in recent weeks, setting up a tough to call Championship clash at Deepdale.

The Owls produced a remarkable comeback to secure a 3-3 draw against Middlesbrough last time out after being 3-0 down at half-time and will have to show the same fighting spirit against a Lilywhites side who have lost just one of their last eight games.

Only the top five and West Brom have lost fewer games than North End, who have turned themselves into one of the toughest teams to face in the division, particularly at home.

Draw - 19/10

The Championship has been as competitive as ever this season and two teams who have been punching above their weight recently face off in what should be an entertaining affair.

Danny Rohl’s visitors are firmly in the play-off picture after losing just one of their last eight outings and perhaps the Owls' biggest worry will be holding on to their manager, who has done an excellent job and has been linked with a move away as a result.

After wins over Oxford United and Stoke City over the festive period, Wednesday were shellshocked to find themselves 3-0 down at half-time to a rampant Boro on Boxing Day.

However, goals from Svante Ingelsonn, Josh Windass and Yan Valery saw Rohl’s men battle back to secure a point.

That was another impressive performance from a team who are much more than the sum of their parts.

However, they face a Preston side who have also caught the eye after a slow start. The Lilywhites have beaten Cardiff City and Hull City and conceded a last-minute equaliser against Leeds United in their last four games, so they are clearly in good nick.

Stalemates have been the big issue for Paul Heckingbottom’s side, they have shared the spoils a league-high 11 times from 23 games and, with both of these teams in good form as of late, North End may once again have to settle for a draw.

The visitors’ dramatic comeback last time out might have taken something out of their legs, so this could be a cagier affair than that and the two teams may have to settle for a point apiece.

Milutin Osmajic to score at any time - 13/5

A bite against Blackburn saw Milutin Osmajic miss eight Championship games due to suspension, but the forward has been effective whenever he has featured for Preston this season.

The 25-year-old has four goals from just 568 minutes of second-tier action this term and has two goals and an assist in his last four games, rewarding his manager’s loyalty for bringing him back into the team following the ban.

Take the Montenegrin forward to add to his tally in this contest.

Alistair McCann to be shown a card - 13/5

Alistair McCann has transformed himself into a crucial player in midfield for this Preston side, doing plenty of the dirty work for Heckingbottom’s men.

However, that can lead him to trouble with the referee and he has already been carded eight times in 19 league games.

The Northern Ireland international could pick up his ninth of the season in what looks likely to be a fierce midfield battle.
