Premier League Specials: Taiwo Awoniyi 200/1 to break Jamie Vardy record

Taiwo Awoniyi has started this season where he left the last with goals in each of his first three games, and we’ve priced him up at 200/1 to beat Jamie Vardy’s record of scoring in 11 consecutive Premier League games.

Vardy of course beat Ruud van Nistelrooy’s record of scoring in 10 consecutive Premier League games, netting in his 11th against Manchester United of all sides.

But Awoniyi has now scored in seven on the bounce and may be eyeing up Vardy’s record before long.

Despite scoring 15 goals in the 2021/22 Bundesliga season with Union Berlin to earn a move to the Premier League, it took the Nigerian time to fully find his feet, not aided by a hamstring injury keeping him out for three months at the turn of the year.

After returning to fitness, a goalless April followed before firing Nottingham Forest to safety with a magnificent May.

Awoniyi, who had four goals in his first 13 games, doubled his tally for the season with back-to-back braces against Southampton and Chelsea, scoring again against Arsenal and Crystal Palace.

Though Awoniyi started on the bench against Arsenal for the opening game of the new campaign, the Forest frontman scored 10 minutes after his introduction, then scoring inside three minutes at home to new boys Sheffield United.

He got off to a similarly fast start at Old Trafford on Saturday, showing electric pace to leave Marcus Rashford in his wake, netting inside two minutes.

bet365’s Steve Freeth said: “He’s scored at the Emirates and now Old Trafford and he’ll need to do the same at Stamford Bridge and the Etihad if he still wants to be in with a shout of surpassing the Leicester City striker.

“His burst of pace past Rashford was eye-catching as was his putting of Andre Onana on his backside before making it seven on the trot.

“The liabilities are building on the in-form hitman with his price shortening from 250/1 into 200/1 and it won’t surprise me to see another change before kick-off against Chelsea.”

Nottingham Forest’s next five Premier League games:

Chelsea (a)15:00, Sat 2nd Sep
Burnley (h)19:45, Mon 18th Sep
Manchester City (a)15:00, Sat 23rd Sep
Brentford (h)14:00, Sun 1st Oct
Crystal Palace (a)17:30, Sat 7th Oct
