The Premier League 2024/25 season starts on 16th August and Racing Post's James Milton has picked out his best antepost bets for the new campaign.

Premier League Antepost betting tips and predictions

Arsenal to win outright - 15/8

Arsenal took the Premier League title race down to the final day of the season in 2023/24 despite having one of the youngest squads in the division.

Knocking Manchester City off top spot will not be easy as the Citizens have been crowned champions in six of the past seven campaigns.

However, Arsenal know they can compete with City, who registered just two shots on target in two league meetings with the Gunners last season – a 1-0 defeat in north London and a cagey 0-0 draw in Manchester.

Those results demonstrated Arsenal's defensive excellence with David Raya impressing in goal and centre-back William Saliba starting all 38 league matches.

The return from injury of Jurrien Timber and the impending arrival of Italy defender Riccardo Calafiori should strengthen a defence which conceded only 29 goals last term.

Arsenal turned on the style in the new year, scoring 33 times in their first eight matches of 2024. With Kai Havertz settling into his centre-forward role, another bold title bid is expected.

City, also favourites to win the Champions League, remain a huge threat. However, they won only two of their 10 games against top-six clubs last season and suffered a shock defeat to Manchester United in the FA Cup final.

Liverpool, under new boss Arne Slot, should go well although they have been quiet in the transfer market.

The third-placed Reds finished 14 points clear of Aston Villa in fourth in 2023/24 so clubs such as Chelsea, United, Newcastle and Tottenham have plenty of ground to make up on the top three in the title betting.

Aston Villa to finish in top six - 11/8

Unai Emery's Villa pipped Spurs to fourth spot, and Champions League qualification, last season and they look a big price to make the top six this term.

Their league form tailed off towards the end of the season, perhaps due to a gruelling run to the Europa Conference League semi-finals, but they have splashed the cash again this summer.

Douglas Luiz's departure to Juventus is a blow but Everton's Amadou Onana looks a good replacement in midfield and Leon Bailey, Morgan Rogers, John McGinn and Jaden Philogene are exciting options to feed off England striker Ollie Watkins.

Villa did the double over Arsenal last term, winning to nil at home and away, and also beat champions Manchester City 1-0 at Villa Park.

There is a strong spine to the Villa side, from World Cup-winning goalkeeper Emi Martinez to Watkins, who contributed 19 goals and 13 assists last season, and they make more appeal in the top-six market than odds-on shots Chelsea, Newcastle and Manchester United.

Bournemouth +39 on season handicap - 15/1

Bournemouth finished just one point behind 10th-placed Crystal Palace last season and the Cherries will be targeting the top half in Andoni Iraola's second year at the club.

The players clearly needed time to get used to the Spaniard's high-pressing tactics, picking up just three points from their first eight matches.

A 2-0 home victories over Newcastle in November kickstarted a run of six wins in seven games and the exception was a 2-2 draw with Aston Villa, who scored a 90th-minute equaliser.

Bournemouth were outstanding in December's 3-0 away win over Manchester United and striker Dominic Solanke finished the campaign with 19 league goals.

The Cherries lost their final three games to Arsenal, Brentford and Chelsea but their xG stats suggest they should improve and they are a tempting each-way bet on the season handicap.

Christopher Nkunku to be top goalscorer - 50/1

A pre-season knee injury ruined Christopher Nkunku's first campaign at Chelsea but the Frenchman merits an each-way interest in the top-goalscorer betting.

While Manchester City's Erling Haaland is the obvious favourite, there are doubts over the future of Liverpool's Mohamed Salah and Nkunku has impressed the Blues' new manager Enzo Maresca.

His last two Bundesliga seasons for RB Leipzig yielded 36 goals in just 51 starts and Chelsea created plenty of chances in his absence last term.

Cole Palmer finished second to Haaland in the Golden Boot race and striker Nicolas Jackson scored 14 league goals despite missing a host of opportunities.

Nkunku was restricted to just 437 minutes of Premier League football during a frustrating season. He still managed to score three goals, against Wolves, Liverpool and Brighton, and he will be determined to make up for lost time in 2024/25.
