Plymouth Relegation Odds: Argyle 2/1 to be relegated from Championship after sacking head coach Ian Foster

Plymouth's recent slump down the Championship table has led to head coach Ian Foster being sacked by the Devon club after less than three months in charge at Home Park.

The Pilgrims have picked up only one point from their last six Championship games and Monday's 1-0 home defeat by West Country rivals Bristol City led to Foster being fired having taken charge of just 14 league matches.

Foster's Plymouth record

Foster had enjoyed success with England's youth teams, winning the Under-17 World Cup and managing the Under 18, Under-19 and Under-20 sides, but this was his first role leading a club in the EFL.

He got off to a bright start by taking seven points from his first three Championship games through wins over Cardiff and Swansea and an away draw at Huddersfield, but it has been all downhill since and a lack of goals has hampered their attempts to stay out of the relegation zone.

Foster lost eight of his final 11 games as head coach, with the only win being a 2-0 success at Middlebrough on 24th February, while he also avoided defeat in draws against Coventry and Blackburn.

Other than that it has been a miserable time for the Pilgrims, who have lost five successive home games without even scoring a goal as Leeds, West Brom, Ipswich, Preston and Bristol City all won to nil at Home Park.

Argyle have scored just four goals in their last nine games and while Foster's life was made tougher by the loss of loan players Finn Azaz and Luke Cundle soon after his arrival, they have been sliding towards the bottom three at an alarming rate.

Argyle's latest relegation odds

None of the teams at the bottom of the Championship have been making a convincing bid to break clear of trouble and, with Rotherham looking doomed despite Monday's win over Millwall, the other two relegation places look to be between Birmingham, Huddersfield, Sheffield Wednesday and Plymouth.

At the moment, Argyle are not among the favourites to make a swift return to League One as their relegation odds are 2/1, the joint-longest of the four main contenders for the final two spots.

With odds no longer available on Rotherham to go down, Sheffield Wednesday have the shortest price for relegation at 4/7, while Huddersfield are 11/10 and Birmingham are the same odds as Plymouth at 2/1

With all those teams having six games remaining, Birmingham improved to 20th place on 42 points by beating Preston on Monday for their first win in eight matches, while Plymouth are on 41 points, again one point ahead of Huddersfield, with Wednesday a further point behind on 39.

Blackburn are 6/1 for relegation and Millwall are 8/1 to be dragged into the bottom three.

Plymouth’s remaining fixtures

Last season's League One champions will try to improve their own chances of survival by winning at Rotherham on Friday night, a result which would send the Millers down.

After that they have home games against QPR and Leicester followed by visits to Stoke and Millwall that could prove to be crucial contests in the relegation battle.

Argyle close out their campaign with a home game against Hull City.

Next match odds

The Pilgrims are in the spotlight on Friday with their game against Rotherham being shown on Sky Sports Football (20:00 BST kick-off).

The visitors are favourites to win with odds of 1/1, while last-placed Rotherham are 14/5 and the draw is 5/2.

It's 10/11 that there will be either under 2.5 goals or over 2.5 goals in the game, while both teams to score is available at 8/11.

Plymouth's Morgan Whittaker is 4/1 favourite to score the first goal in Friday's game.
