Plymouth Argyle v Burnley: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Having gathered 16 points from their last six Championship road trips, Burnley are fancied to get the better of rock-bottom Plymouth Argyle at Home Park on Wednesday night.

Four teams are dominating the race for automatic promotion, including the resilient Clarets, who have sustained only two losses from 27 league fixtures.

However, Scott Parker’s side have been involved in 11 draws, including Friday’s 0-0 at home to Sunderland.

Plymouth are concentrating on the opposite end of the table as they continue their battle to remain a second tier club.

They have propped up the standings for over a month and are in desperate need of a lift after Saturday’s disappointing 1-0 defeat at home to QPR.

Plymouth Argyle v Burnley betting tips and predictions

Burnley -1 on Asian handicap - 43/40

Burnley needed a pair of superb penalty saves from goalkeeper James Trafford to rescue a 0-0 draw at home to Sunderland on Friday, but they will be targeting a front foot performance away to Plymouth and should prevail by a comfortable margin.

Scott Parker’s side have had some issues in home matches when they have often struggled to break down deep-lying defences.

But they tend to be given a bit more freedom on their travels and have taken advantage by piling up the points.

Burnley’s impressive away record features eight victories, including successes over Leeds (1-0) and Sheffield United (2-0).

And the Clarets should enjoy coming up against Plymouth, who are rooted to the foot of the table after 13 Championship games without a victory.

Plymouth have picked up 18 of their 21 points on home soil, but the last of their home wins came back in early November when Michael Obafemi’s goal secured a fortunate 1-0 triumph over Portsmouth.

There was a recent change in the Argyle dugout when Austrian head coach Miron Muslic was announced as the permanent successor to Wayne Rooney.

But Muslic was critical of the team’s performance after Saturday’s 1-0 loss at home to QPR, and he faces a seemingly daunting task in his efforts to steer the club to safety.

Plymouth were fortunate to avoid a heavy loss to QPR, who missed several big chances before substitute Ryan Kolli’s second half strike.

But they might be punished by the Clarets, who will be eager to boost their points tally and their goal difference.

Zian Flemming to score anytime - 7/4

Burnley should be encouraged by the recent performances of Dutch attacker Ziam Flemming, who netted twice in their 3-1 extra-time success at Reading in the FA Cup third round.

Fleming has been in and out of Burnley’s starting line-up, but seems to be gaining some confidence at an important period of the campaign.

The 26-year-old had scored five times in Burnley’s last five away matches and looks a tempting 7/4 shot to boost his tally in south Devon.

Over 2.5 goals - 11/10

One of the few positives Plymouth can cling onto is their ability to score goals on home soil.

The Pilgrims blanked against QPR on Saturday but their home goal tally (22) is higher than the majority of divisional rivals.

They have some exciting attacking players, including long-term Burnley transfer target Morgan Whittaker, who netted in the shock 1-0 success away to Brentford in the FA Cup third round.

Scoring against Burnley is not out of the question but there could be plenty of damage done at the other end with the away side set to emerge with a high-scoring success.
