League One promotion chasers Peterborough have won their last four matches and will be looking to kick-on against playoff hopefuls Stevenage, who need a response on Wednesday after a 0-0 draw at home to relegation-threatened Fleetwood.

Peterborough v Stevenage betting tips and predictions

Peterborough to win - 4/5

Peterborough have responded to a four-game losing sequence by winning five on the trot and they look a solid 4/5 wager to rack up another three points when taking on promotion rivals Stevenage at London Road.

Automatic promotion remains a possibility for Posh, who are playing as fluently as at any point in the campaign.

Darren Ferguson’s side are brimming with confidence after following up last Tuesday’s 5-1 victory at home to Northampton with a 3-1 away victory against Burton.

Going into this week’s third tier fixtures they were the division’s top scorers with 71 goals and they usually fancy their chances of out-scoring any opponent.

Stevenage are not as well stocked with attacking talent and have been going about their promotion push in a different way.

Steve Evans’ side have conceded just 34 goals in 36 league matches and they head to London Road with the aim of chalking up a fifth successive clean sheet.

Offensively, Stevenage have been heavily reliant on striker Jamie Reid, who has contributed 17 of their 48 league goals.

Winger Jordan Roberts is second on the Stevenage scorers list with five league goals and only one of them has come in 2024.

Stevenage’s disciplined defence and direct style of play make them awkward opponents but the Hertfordshire side have generally struggled on the toughest of away trips.

Evans’ charges have played away to five of the top eight and have lost all of those matches, scoring four goals and conceding 11.

Had they achieved a few better results against the top teams, Stevenage might have headed to London Road with a top two finish on their minds.

Stevenage remain in contention for a playoff spot which is a credit to the progress they have made as one of the lower budget teams in the division.

However, their attacking limitations have been evident in recent 0-0 draws away to Lincoln and at home to Fleetwood and a failure to score against free-scoring Posh could leave them staring at a 10th league loss of the campaign.

Ricky-Jade Jones to score anytime - 21/10

The main reason for Peterborough’s presence in the League One promotion race is their vast array of attacking talent.

They are immensely strong in wide areas with Ephron Mason-Clark and Kwame Poku providing a mixture of pace, athleticism and intelligence.

Mason-Clark was allowed to sign for Coventry in January on the proviso that he returned to Peterborough on a loan basis.

He is top of Peterborough’s goal involvements with 13 goals and five assists, but is only slightly superior to Poku, who has popped up with 10 goals and seven assists.

Right back Harrison Burrows has done even better in the creative sense with 11 assists, and centre-forward Ricky-Jade Jones has done his bit with nine goals and four assists.

Jones’ energy has been absolutely key to Peterborough’s high press, and there are signs of the player finding a more clinical touch in front of goal.

The 21-year-old has netted on three of his last six league starts and he looks a tempting 21/10 shot to notch against Stevenage.

Dan Butler to be carded - 5/2

Given the wealth of talent on the Peterborough flanks, it could be a long night’s work for Stevenage’s full-backs Luther Wildin and Dan Butler.

Wildin has pace to burn and has shown commendable composure by picking up just one League One yellow card.

However, the left-sided Butler has been much more combative and is top of Stevenage’s card count with nine.

Butler needs to get through one more match to reach the 37-game threshold and avoid triggering a two-game ban, but he looks an obvious caution candidate and is a tempting 5/2 shot to enter the referee’s notebook.
