Oxford City v Leicester City Prediction: Where there's a 10/3 Will there's a way for Foxes

The draw for the first round of this year's FA Cup produced plenty of juicy contests, with few more eye-catching than recent winners Leicester's trip to Oxford City.

The MGroup Stadium, the home of the National League North side, will be packed with Hoops fans hoping to see their side carve their name into the history of this greatest of cup competitions.

There is a 64-place gulf in the EFL pyramid, or one giant banana skin standing between these two teams, and Foxes' under-fire chief Russell Martin will be praying it's not the latter.

Oxford City vs Leicester City Prediction

Best Bet - Will Smallbone anytime goalscorer @ 10/3

Nearly seven years since Will Smallbone's last (and only) FA Cup goal, back the Republic of Ireland midfielder to find the net for a second time in the competition on Friday.

The classy ex-Southampton schemer has yet to establish a foothold at the King Power since moving from St Mary's.

But he was outstanding when he made his first start for the Foxes in last week's 3-0 win over Wigan, firing in a couple of shots and looking a real threat.

Smallbone is expected to start at Oxford, with Martin sure to give more players pitch time and those well-timed runs from deep make him a genuine threat to the home defence.

Alternative Bet - Leicester to win & both teams to score @ 7/4

Oxford City have no difficulty scoring, finding the net in all but one of their 17 matches this season.

Ten-goal Tyrone Marsh leads a lively attack, though with the caveat that they are playing in the sixth tier.

But they can find a way through Leicester's back three, especially given that the visitors have kept only two clean sheets in their last 11. And Martin will make some changes.

Ross Jenkins' non-league side may not win this tie but they can find the net in defeat.

Oxford City vs Leicester City Bet Builder Tip

  • Match Goals Range 3-6

  • Over 6 Leicester Corners

  • Over 2 Oxford City Corners

  • Leicester - Leicester Half Time/Full Time

Pays 21/4

Nine of Leicester's last 11 matches produced a 3-6 goals range and that looks the likely outcome here.

Oxford City would love to be able to smother the life out of their distinguished guests, but they shipped three in a 3-1 loss to South Shields at home last week and this game looks more likely than not to feature goals.

Leicester average 66 per cent of possession in their League One game, no surprise to anyone who has seen Martin sides before.

With that much ball it is little wonder they win plenty of corners, too, averaging seven a game in the third tier.

That said, City will want to be positive when the chances arise and with Leicester making changes, the hosts can win at least three corners of their own.

The ease with which The Hoops conceded three goals inside 40 minutes against title rivals South Shields last weekend would have you believe they can be picked apart easily enough. Take Leicester to break through early and stay in front.
