There’s been plenty of drama in the men’s football tournament at the Olympics and Thursday will see either Egypt or Morocco get their hands on the bronze medal in Nantes.
Both teams will be reeling from their heartbreaking semi-final defeats, with the Atlas Lions losing to Spain and the Pharaohs were ousted in extra-time by hosts France.
Thursday’s game at Stade de la Beaujoire offers an opportunity for one of these sides to not leave France empty-handed and the Moroccan players might just be the ones smiling come the full-time whistle in Nantes.
Morocco to win and both teams to score - 13/5
Much like the last World Cup in Qatar, Morocco have represented themselves admirably at this Olympics and almost reached the final.
Taking the lead against Spain, it looked like on the hour mark that the Moroccans could cause an upset.
However, La Roja’s quality eventually shone through and now Morocco must dust themselves off from the 2-1 defeat at the Stade de Marseille and go again.
Egypt, meanwhile, took France to extra-time, having also looked like they too where going to cause an upset against the hosts.
Mahmoud Saber’s 62nd-minute goal looked like it might have been enough, before Jean-Philippe Mateta struck in the 83rd minute to level the scores.
It looked like there was only going to be one winner from that point and two goals from Mateta and Michael Olise in extra-time saw France through to Friday night’s final against Spain in Paris.
After that sort of collapse, it’s going to be hard for Egypt to go again against a Moroccan side that have won their only previous U23 encounter.
That game 3-2 back in December 2011 as Morocco qualified for the 2012 Olympics in London.
A similar scoreline might well be on the cards here, with both teams getting on the scoresheet but Morocco’s quality, especially in the final third, showing through,
Half Time/Full Time - Morocco/Morocco - 7/4
Morocco have made a habit of starting strongly at this tournament and it would be little surprise to see the Atlas Lions hold the lead at half-time, before going on to win this bronze-medal contest in regulation time.
The Moroccans have scored in the first-half in four of their five games at this tournament.
Scoring six first-half goals throughout this competitions, there is certainly value to be had in backing the Atlas Lions to be leading at the break, before going on to take the bronze.
Soufiane Rahimi anytime goalscorer - 2/1
A player who has been the star of the show for Morocco, Soufiane Rahimi has certainly made a name for himself at this Olympic Games.
Scoring six goals already in the competition, the Al Ain forward is the leading goalscorer in the tournament.
While four of those goals have come from the penalty spot, Rahimi has also made a nuisance of himself in open play for opposition defenders.
Should Morocco be awarded a penalty, there are few players you would rather have than Rahimi to take it.
At odds of 2/1 in the anytime goalscorer market, the 28-year-old is certainly worth considering to find the back of the net.
