Olympiacos v Panathinaikos: Prediction, Tips and Odds

The stakes are high for the third Derby of the Eternal Enemies of the season, with only four points separating storied rivals Olympiacos and Panathinaikos at the Greek Super League summit.

Olympiacos have made a great start to securing a first title since 2022 by taking 43 points from their opening 19 games, but their rivals will be eager to pull off a shock in Piraeus and close the gap to just one point.

Amazingly, Pana last won the Greek Super League in 2010, so they will be keen to make the most of their strong start, giving them extra motivation ahead of this trip to the Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium, where there may be little to split these eternal enemies.

Olympiacos v Panathinaikos betting tips and predictions

Draw - 23/10

Given they are leading the Super League, are the reigning UEFA Conference League champions and have gone 17 games without a defeat, it is unsurprising to see Olympiacos come into this Eternal Enemies of the season as odds-on favourites.

However, while their recent success deserves celebration, there is enough to like about Pana to suggest they can earn a valuable point in Piraeus - a win is likely to prove a step too far, though, given Olympiacos are yet to lose a home match this term.

The first two derbies of the season finished level, as did the last one of the 2023-24 campaign, and it would be no surprise to see the trend continue on Sunday.

Olympiacos are not the only Greek side on a mammoth unbeaten run as their upcoming visitors have put together a brilliant sequence of their own, going 15 matches without tasting defeat.

Panathinaikos have won 12 of the games in that run and they seem to have an affinity for big matches, beating both the champions, PAOK, and third-placed AEK Athens this month.

They have lost just one of their last 10 away matches and the Athens-based club can frustrate their bitter rivals on Sunday to make it six draws in eight derby-day clashes.

Ayoub El Kaabi anytime goalscorer - 11/8

While there may be little to split this pair in Piraeus, goals look likely.

Three of the last four derbies have seen both teams find the net and an exciting encounter could play out at the Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium.

It is hard to pinpoint exactly where the visitors’ goals will come from given they have had 10 different scorers in the Super League this term, with Filip Djuricic and Tete leading the way for Pana with five apiece, but nailing an anytime goalscorer for Olympiacos is a much simpler task.

Ayoub El Kaabi enjoyed an excellent season last term, netting 33 goals in 50 games in all competitions, and he has picked up exactly where he left off.

The Moroccan striker has bagged 18 goals in 29 games to start the campaign, with 13 of those coming in the Super League, meaning he has found the net at least eight times more than any Pana player as well as any of his team-mates.

He also has an affinity for big games, netting 11 goals in nine matches - he scored five of those in the semi-finals against Aston Villa before grabbing the winning goal in the final versus Fiorentina - as Olympiacos landed the UEFA Conference League.

El Kaabi is the favourite in the anytime goalscorer market for a reason and he can find the net in Piraeus.

Filip Mladenovic to be booked - 15/8

With a name like the Derby of the Eternal Enemies, it is no surprise to see that this fixture can regularly boil over.

Surprisingly, the pair’s cup meeting earlier this month saw just one card brandished, but the rivals’ last league meeting was closer to the expected figure, with seven dished out.

Filip Mladenovic was one of the names in the referee’s book that day and the Pana defender rates a solid card candidate once again.

The powerful Serbian picked up eight yellow cards in 30 Super League matches last term and he is seemingly only getting dirtier, as, in 13 fewer games, he has earned himself seven already this season.

He will have his hands full keeping tabs on El Kaabi and 15/8 is a decent enough price to back Mladenovic match last season’s yellow tally on Sunday.
