Oldham Athletic will look to get their National League play-off hopes back on track when they face Halifax Town on Wednesday.
Micky Mellon’s Latics finished fifth, although only seven of their 19 wins were registered in the second half of the campaign.
However, Athletic’s 73-point tally was a marked improvement on the 63-point haul achieved during last season’s mid-table finish.
Halifax are participating in the play-offs for a second successive campaign.
The Shaymen fell at the first hurdle in the 2023-24 National League post-season, losing 4-2 away to Solihull Moors.
Oldham to win - 1/1
Oldham were victorious in each of their last two home fixtures and should have a bit too much quality for Halifax in their play-off clash at Boundary Park.
The Latics played among the top four divisions from 1907 to 2022, so it was a big shock when they were relegated to the National League during the 2021-22 campaign.
However, they have made steady progress in the fifth tier, finishing 12th, tenth and fifth, and should feel reasonably confident against Halifax, who they have fared well against in recent encounters.
Oldham took four points off Halifax in the league campaign, drawing 1-1 at the Shay and winning 2-0 at Boundary Park. They also triumphed 4-2 at home to the Yorkshire side in the FA Cup fourth qualifying round.
There is still plenty of room for improvement for Oldham, who finished 29 points adrift of National League champions Barnet.
But they have been a top-seven side since mid-September and warmed up for the play-offs in a confident manner by winning 2-0 at home to relegated Ebbsfleet.
Halifax have been less convincing in recent weeks, with only eight points gathered from their last ten fixtures.
They have relied heavily on stout defence and ended the league season with just 50 goals, which is the lowest among teams finishing outside of the bottom two.
Chris Millington’s side rounded off their league campaign with a 3-1 loss at Wealdstone, who had gone into the game at risk of being relegated.
They are faced with a tougher assignment against Oldham and may struggle to avoid a season-ending defeat.
Vimal Yoganathan to score any time - 17/2
Oldham have bagged 64 league goals, including 17 from tall striker Mike Fondop, who tops their scoring charts.
Centre-backs Charlie Raglan and Emmanuel Monthe have shown their attacking instincts with league tallies of five and four but goals from midfield have been more of a rarity.
However, Barnsley loanee Vimal Yoganathan has shown flashes of quality and may be ready to make an impact in the play-offs.
Yoganathan has scored just once in 14 Oldham appearances, but he has been making plenty of forward runs and looks an overpriced 17/2 shot to score against Halifax.
Under 0.5 Halifax goals - 6/5
Halifax are the lowest scorers among the play-off contenders and they may struggle to breach the Oldham backline.
The Shaymen have blanked in six of their last ten fixtures, so it makes sense to back under 0.5 Halifax goals at odds-against.
