Nottingham Forest v Manchester United: Tips, Predictions and Odds

Manchester United's only realistic remaining chance of silverware this season is winning the FA Cup and the Red Devils can keep that dream alive at least a while longer by recording a fifth-round victory away to Nottingham Forest on Wednesday.

The 12-time winners fell at the final hurdle last season with a 2-1 defeat to rivals Manchester City at Wembley and it is now eight years since they last lifted the famous trophy.

While United can target success in this competition, it became even less of a priority for Nottingham Forest this week when the reduction of Everton's penalty for breaching profit and sustainability rules left them deeper in Premier League relegation trouble.

Forest fans would no doubt love to knock a famous name out of the competition but the home side have won only one of their last 10 games in 90 minutes and face another tough test in this tie.

Nottingham Forest v Manchester United predictions

Manchester United to win @ 6/5

Manchester United have a point to prove yet again after their latest apparent revival came off the rails with a 2-1 home defeat to Fulham in the Premier League on Saturday.

The Red Devils had been rebuilding their reputation and enhancing the career prospects of manager Erik ten Hag by winning five successive games before that match, which included three away wins in the Premier League.

Now they need to rebound positively and it won't have been lost on them that their previous league loss was at the City Ground in a 2-1 defeat on 30th December.

Those road wins at Wolves, Aston Villa and Luton should stand United in good stead for this trip and their away league record of seven wins, one draw and five defeats is identical to their results at Old Trafford.

United have also chalked up two away victories so far in this competition, winning 2-0 at League One Wigan and 4-2 at League Two Newport County.

The Red Devils have certainly found it easier to overcome lower-league opposition in the FA Cup than Forest, who have required two attempts to get past EFL teams in both the third and fourth rounds.

First they were held to a 2-2 home draw by League One Blackpool and then needed extra-time to win the replay 3-2, while Forest then drew 0-0 at Championship club Bristol City and were taken all the way to penalties at the City Ground after a 1-1 draw.

Forest have won only four of their 13 home league games this season and their recent 2-0 win over West Ham came against an out-of-form side who were reduced to 10 men for the final 20 minutes.

United should have it in them to secure their progress to the quarter-finals inside 90 minutes.

Man Utd to win 2-1 correct score @ 8/1

Both teams have scored in six of Manchester United's last seven matches and the same applies to 11 of Forest's last 13 games in all competitions.

United's last seven fixtures have all produced over 2.5 goals as they continue to look dangerous when attacking, even without injured top scorer Rasmus Hojlund, but still don't convince defensively.

Either side of keeping a rare clean sheet against West Ham, Forest conceded seven goals in two games against Newcastle and Aston Villa and it's hard to see them keeping out a United side who have scored at least twice in their last five away games.

Both teams to score and over 2.5 goals both look solid bets, but taking a chance on a 2-1 win to United in the correct score market could provide a greater return and would continue both trends.

Bruno Fernandes anytime goalscorer @ 3/1

Bruno Fernandes scored a penalty in United's 3-2 Premier League home win over Forest in August and looks worth backing at 3/1 to get on the scoresheet again in this FA Cup clash.

The United captain has also been on the scoresheet in both rounds of this competition, converting another spot-kick in the third round against Wigan and netting the first goal of the match in the win at Newport.

Fernandes has only three league goals this season but has been a regular scorer in cups and has 11 goals in totals for United and Portugal this term. He looks a good-value bet to be among the scorers on Wednesday.
