Nottingham Forest v Crystal Palace: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Nottingham Forest have made a strong start to the new Premier League season and will hope to maintain their form at home to a struggling Crystal Palace side.

The early-season schedule was quite demanding for Forest, who faced away matches at Liverpool and Chelsea among their opening seven assignments.

But they have sustained just one league defeat and delivered a strong performance last time out when drawing 1-1 with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

While Forest are sitting reasonably comfortably in mid-table, Palace have slipped into the drop zone after three draws and four defeats.

The Eagles are still searching for their first league win of the season and are likely to be low on confidence after back-to-back losses away to Everton (2-1) and at home to Liverpool (1-0).

Nottingham Forest to win - 13/10

Forest are waiting for their first home win of the season, but the moment could arrive when they take on Palace on Monday evening.

The best moments for Forest have come on the travels with 1-0 successes over Southampton and Liverpool and draws against Brighton (2-2) and Chelsea (1-1).

However, the Tricky Trees will be determined to give their home fans something to shout about and they look overpriced to defeat the Eagles, who have made their worst start to a season since 2017-18.

Palace were fast finishers last term, taking 19 points from their final seven games, but they had a tough summer with playmaker Michael Olise leaving for Bayern Munich and reliable defender Joachim Andersen moving to Fulham.

Three of their four defeats have been by a single goal, but Palace have mustered just five goals, the lowest total in the top-flight and need to find some improvement if they are to avoid a survival scrap.

Eagles manager Oliver Glasner has had a couple of weeks to work on finding some solutions, but his team have failed to convince and their dismal start may continue.

Chris Wood to score any time - 9/4

Returning to Premier League action on a Monday is an ideal scenario for Forest striker Chris Wood, who made two starts for New Zealand during the international break and found the net on both occasions.

Wood increased his international tally to 36 with a goal in Monday’s 4-0 friendly success over Malaysia in Auckland and he has had ample time to recover from his long return journey.

The 32-year-old is a popular figure for the All Whites and is becoming a fan favourite at Forest thanks to his efforts over the last 15 months.

Wood topped the Forest scoring charts last season with 14 Premier League goals and he is off to a strong start this term with four goals in seven appearances.

Playing for Nuno Espirito Santo seems to be suiting the towering striker, who looks an overpriced 9/4 shot to add to his tally.

Jefferson Lerma to be carded - 11/8

Palace may need to show their battling qualities to climb away from the Premier League danger zone, but there is always a danger of players overstepping the mark.

Midfielder Will Hughes has collected three yellow cards despite making five of his six league appearances as a substitute.

The 29-year-old is quoted at 3/1 for a caution, but that looks on the skinny side bearing in mind that he rarely gets a starting berth.

Colombia international Jefferson Lerma is more likely to feature from the first whistle and he looks a more solid 11/8 bet to enter referee Tim Robinson’s notebook.

Lerma absolutely loves a tackle and has been booked three times in his last six Palace appearances.
