Nottingham Forest v Crystal Palace: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Oliver Glasner would have welcomed the recent international break as it gave the Austrian a great chance to study his newly acquired Crystal Palace squad and help them understand his style of play.

Michael Olise’s return should help matters further and this Palace side could soon be unrecognisable to the one left behind by Roy Hodgson.

It would be no surprise to see a completely different style from the Eagles at the City Ground on Saturday, although they will need to be at their best to get anything against Nottingham Forest, who will no doubt be fired up following the confirmation of their four-point deduction last week.

The Reds have struggled for form of late, but there were signs of improvement in their last home outing against Liverpool and it promises to be an exciting affair when they take on Palace this weekend.

Draw @ 23/10

Crystal Palace have taken four points in their three games of the Glasner era but their sole away game under the Austrian saw them throw away a one-goal lead late on at Spurs and collapse in poor fashion.

The Eagles have struggled on the road all term, going nine games without a victory on their travels since landing a 2-0 win against lowly Burnley at Turf Moor back in November, and their away form will need to improve sooner rather than later if they are to be entirely rid of any remaining fears of relegation.

Palace should be better for the international break but it is difficult, given their abysmal away record, to see them coming away with three points from the City Ground, which is likely to resemble a cauldron following the news of Forest’s points deduction.

The Reds, like the Eagles on their travels, have been difficult to trust at home though. Nuno Espirito Santo’s appointment has not quite gone as planned and their poor results at the City Ground have continued, with their home record in the Premier League this season now reading three wins, three draws and seven losses.

Forest should be motivated by their four-point deduction and spurred on by the fiery City Ground terraces, but their home record of seven losses from their last nine suggests backing them to win could be a risky move.

Palace have had time to adapt to Glasner’s methods but are also untrustworthy, so taking a punt on the draw, which has landed in the past two meetings between the pair, may prove to be a profitable play.

Morgan Gibbs-White to score or assist @ 6/5

Nottingham Forest’s downturn in form, which has seen them fail to win any of their five games since beating West Ham 2-0, has also seen star man Morgan Gibbs-White’s output regress slightly too, with the midfielder managing just one goal and one assist in that run.

However, the former Wolves man has still been heavily involved in everything the Reds have done going forward, registering 12 shots and creating 14 chances for his teammates in total in those matches.

Gibbs-White has scored one and assisted the other of Forest’s two goals against Crystal Palace since their return to the Premier League in 2022, suggesting the Reds’ star man could have a big part to play on Saturday.

Over 10 match corners @ 11/10

Oliver Glasner is a very forward-thinking manager, and his free-flowing style often leads to plenty of shots and, consequently, corners - be that for his side or the opposition.

His opening match at the Eagles saw his side rack up 12 corners as they dispatched Burnley 3-0 while his second saw 12 corners in the match, but 11 of those were for Tottenham, who eventually ran out 3-1 victors.

His third match saw Palace manage eight corners against Luton, who themselves earned six, highlighting how Glasner’s open, attacking style can lead to plenty of set-piece opportunities.

Two of Forest’s last three matches have featured at least 10 corners, a combination of the Tricky Trees’ lust to haul themselves away from trouble following the points deduction and the Eagles’ exciting football could lead to an open game full of chances and, especially, corners at the City Ground.
