Northern Ireland v Andorra: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Northern Ireland were hammered 5-1 by Spain on Saturday, but they have a great chance to bounce back when taking on Andorra in an international friendly at the Estadio Enrique Roca de Murcia

Michael O’Neill’s side led after 71 seconds against Spain thanks to Dan Ballard’s goal, but they failed to build on their stunning start and were overwhelmed by the Spaniards, who are among the genuine contenders to win Euro 2024.

Andorra had been hammered by the Spanish three days earlier - losing 5-0 in Badajoz - and will hope to be more competitive in their final game before the autumn Nations League.

Northern Ireland v Andorra Predictions

Northern Ireland to win 3-0 - 6/1

Northern Ireland manager O’Neill admitted that Spain’s quality was ‘way too high’ after watching his team slump to a 5-1 loss in Mallorca on Saturday, but he will expect a very different outcome when his team take on minnows Andorra in Murcia.

O’Neill’s men struck the first blow against Spain with defender Ballard heading them in front in the second minute, but it was probably the worst thing they could have done.

Spain were stung into action and played at a tempo which Northern Ireland found difficult to live with.

The Spaniards were 4–1 up by the break and slipped into cruise control in the second half as they warmed up for Euro 2024 in the best possible fashion.

O’Neill refused to be too downbeat after the game and he will be confident of an immediate response from his side, who had gone unbeaten in their previous three matches.

Northern Ireland impressed in their March friendlies - drawing 1-1 away to Romania and winning 1-0 away to Scotland - and they have nothing to fear from Andorra, who are among the minnows of European football.

The Andorrans finished bottom of their Euro 2024 qualifying group with just two points from ten matches and have lost four of their last five friendlies, including a 1-0 defeat away to fellow minnows Gibraltar.

Andorra have scored just one goal across their last nine fixtures and appear unlikely to find the net against Northern Ireland, who had been defending solidly before their heavy defeat to Spain.

Northern Ireland were pushed back for long periods against Spain, but they will be gearing up to play front foot football against Andorra and can make their quality count by registering a comfortable victory.

Ross McCausland to score any time - 10/3

Northern Ireland have some promising young players coming through including 21-year-old Rangers winger Ross McCausland, who could have a bright future at club and international level.

McCausland loves to take players on and should be feeling confident after scoring in his last two Scottish Premiership appearances.

He should be given freedom to express himself against Andorra and he looks a tempting price to get on the scoresheet.

Northern Ireland to win both halves - 6/4

Northern Ireland should be the dominant force for long periods of the game and they look reasonably priced to win the first and second halves.

The Green and Whites have won both halves on five occasions since the beginning of 2021, including a 3-0 success away to Malta and a 3-1 victory away to Luxembourg.

They also achieved the feat in both of their Euro 2024 qualifying matches against San Marino, winning 2-0 at Stadio Olimpico di Serravalle and 3-0 at Windsor Park.

Andorra lost both halves of football in three of their last four Euro 2024 qualifiers and they suffered the same fate in last Wednesday ’s 5-0 loss to Spain, conceding the opening goal in the 24th minute.

They have conceded first half goals in seven of their last eight matches and another poor start could set the tone against Northern Ireland, who should run out comfortable winners.
