Monday night's EFL action comes from Sixfields as Northampton Town - whose manager Jon Brady resigned last week - take on Peterborough United, who will be hoping to reignite what has been a disappointing League One campaign so far.

The Cobblers are still reeling from Brady’s sudden departure, with caretaker boss Ian Sampson stating that the former manager’s resignation came "totally out of the blue".

They head into this contest on a run of six games without a win in all competitions, drawing three, and find themselves occupying the final relegation in League One - one point away from safety.

Visitors Peterborough, meanwhile, were one of the favourites for the play-offs before the season began but just six wins from their opening 17 league fixtures have seen the Posh fall 10 points adrift of the top six.

Darren Ferguson’s men lay in 15th place and are just three points above the relegation zone.

With Northampton seemingly in turmoil behind the scenes, all signs point towards a precious three points for Peterborough, who have won four of their last six in all competitions.

Posh have not been in the greatest run of form away from home this season, winning just twice and losing each of their last four on the road in League One, however, they did put four past Newport County in a 4-2 FA Cup victory in their most recent match away from the Weston Homes Stadium.

The Cobblers, meanwhile, have failed to make Sixfields much of a fortress this season, winning just three of their eight league matches here, while only Wigan Athletic (seven) and Burton Albion (eight) have scored fewer goals at home in the third tier than Town (nine).

Their lack of firepower is likely to hamper their chances once again and, with their last league victory coming against Crawley at the end of October, it looks unlikely that the struggling Cobblers will pull themselves away from relegation trouble in this contest.

While the Cobblers have failed to impress in front of goal this season, Peterborough have been a force to be reckoned with going forward and so an entertaining, goal-laden encounter could still be in store on Monday night.

Ferguson’s men rank second in League One in terms of goals scored, with their tally of 32 only being bettered by league leaders Wycombe Wanderers - who have converted 39 times this season.

Posh would arguably be amongst the title contenders if their backline was less porous, with only bottom of the table Shrewsbury Town conceding more goals (35) in the league than Peterborough (30).

Seven of United's last 10 matches in all competitions have seen a minimum of three goals scored and, while Town may have only scored once across their last four, the visitors should have enough quality to pick up the slack and provide plenty of reasons to celebrate for their travelling fans.
