Nice v Marseille: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Nice and Marseille have tended to put on entertaining affairs and this meeting looks set to be no different as the pair aim to maintain their chase of Paris Saint-Germain in the Ligue 1 title race.

The home team have lost two on the spin after falling to Lille and Elfsborg in the last 10 days but should put in a better showing in this league game as they are unbeaten at home domestically so far this term.

However Marseille have been impressive on their travels, winning eight of their nine away league games and the pair look set to play out an end-to-end contest.

Nice v Marseille betting tips and predictions

Both teams to score and over 2.5 goals - 10/11

Marseille finished eighth last season but have been much improved this term under former Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi.

The visitors are second in the table but came into this weekend with a nine-point deficit to leaders Paris Saint-Germain to overcome.

Crucial to Marseille's success has been both their goalscoring record and their away form as they have won eight times on the road, while their 40 goals scored in 18 games ranks second behind only PSG.

They face the team who are third for goals scored this term, Nice, in what should be a thrilling clash.

Both teams have scored in eight of Nice’s last 10 games in all competitions and five of Marseille’s last six so expect plenty of goalmouth action at both ends.

The home team’s Europa League aspirations were finally ended on Thursday as they lost 1-0 to Elfsborg, meaning that they have no chance of progressing to the knockout stages.

However they have been much better domestically and were just two points behind third-placed Lyon coming into this weekend.

Franck Haise’s men do have the worst defensive record in the top eight however, conceding 25 times, and could be vulnerable against a Marseille side with a real eye for goal.

To add to their entertaining nature this season, the recent meetings between these two have typically been high-scoring affairs too, with five of the last seven producing three or more goals.

Take both teams to score and over 2.5 goals in what should be a Sunday cracker in the south of France.

Gaetan Laborde to score at anytime - 9/4

Nice’s Gaetan Laborde is reaching the veteran stage of his career but has been as good as ever so far this term, particularly recently.

The former Rennes striker has scored five goals in his last five Ligue 1 matches and has totalled 19 shots, seven of which have been on target, in that run of form.

The 30-year-old is also the home team’s penalty taker so looks likely to get plenty of opportunities to find the net and is an appealing price to do so.

Lilian Brassier to be shown a card - 5/2

Marseille’s style of play under Roberto De Zerbi can leave their central defenders exposed at times and Lilian Brassier has fallen foul of the referee on three occasions as a result.

The defender was booked 11 times for Brest last season so discipline is something that he struggles with.

Brassier was carded against Strasbourg in his last outing and the price available for him to make it two in a row looks very tempting.
