With reports that Brendan Rodgers is closing in on a return to Celtic, we've suspended betting on him taking over at Parkhead.
Following a treble-winning season completed courtesy of a 3-1 win over Inverness in the Scottish Cup Final at Hampden, Celtic are in need of a new manager following the departure of Ange Postecoglou to Tottenham.
The popular Postecoglou will be a tough act to follow at Parkhead, and previous Bhoys boss Rodgers looks to be closing in on the job.
bet365's Steve Freeth said: "They smashed into the 11/10, they gobbled up the 8/11, they ploughed into the 1/2 and they still wanted to the 1/4. Enough is enough – we’ve suspended betting on Rodgers returning to Celtic Park."
Working at the treble-chasing Manchester City as a member of Pep Guardiola's coaching staff, Maresca was tipped to make a fresh foray into management having spent a short period in charge of Parma in Serie B in 2021.
David Moyes had been briefly in contention amid questions over his future at West Ham, but following the Hammers' Europa Conference League win, Moyes looks set to stay in London, and it now looks like Rodgers will be back in the Celtic Park dugout.
Having enjoyed a hugely successful tenure as Celtic manager between 2016 and 2019, a Rodgers return to Glasgow perhaps made perfect sense all along.
Rodgers took over in 2016, winning the treble of the Scottish Premiership, Scottish Cup and Scottish League Cup in his first season. He repeated the feat in his second season, and followed that up with a seventh-straight trophy win with the 2019 League Cup before leaving mid-season.
Things did end sourly between Celtic and Rodgers when the Northern Irishman last departed the club to join Leicester in 2019, and while some fans may be unwilling to welcome Rodgers back with open arms, it's not thought to have been a major stumbling block.
Rodgers has been without a job since parting company with Leicester City in April, and as a self-proclaimed Celtic fan, he's been tempted back to help the Bhoys win a third consecutive Scottish Premiership title.
