Newcastle United v Wolves: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Newcastle United will look to extend their impressive form when they host Wolverhampton Wanderers at St James' Park on Wednesday night in the Premier League.

Eddie Howe's Magpies are flying high, sitting fifth in the table after a five-match winning streak in the league. Their recent 2-1 victory over Tottenham has kept them firmly in the hunt for a UEFA Champions League spot, while they also won 2-0 at Arsenal in the first leg of their EFL Cup semi-final.

Newcastle have been particularly dominant at home, winning their last three league games at St James' Park, scoring nine goals in the process.

Wolves, meanwhile, are battling to stay out of the relegation zone. Vitor Pereira's side are 17th, only above the drop zone on goal difference.

While the Old Gold have shown flashes of improvement under their new manager, including a three-match unbeaten run on the road, their 3-0 home defeat to Nottingham Forest last time out highlighted their defensive vulnerabilities.

Newcastle have won four of their last six league meetings with Wolves and will aim to complete a league double over them for the first time since 1905/06, having beaten them 2-1 at Molineux earlier this season.

Newcastle United v Wolves Betting Tips and Predictions

Newcastle to win and both teams to score - 8/5

Newcastle have been in scintillating attacking form, scoring at least two goals in each of their last seven Premier League matches.

Their front three of Alexander Isak, Anthony Gordon, and Jacob Murphy have combined for 36 goals and assists this season, making them one of the most potent attacking units in the league.

On the other hand, Wolves have struggled defensively, conceding 45 goals in 20 games - the most in the division. They've also conceded two or more goals in six of their last eight league outings.

Pereira's side have scored goals on their travels - both before and during the Portuguese head coach's time in charge at Molineux.

Wolves have scored in eight of their last nine Premier League away games, which suggests they can halt Newcastle's run of two home clean sheets in the competition.

Non-league Bromley showed Wolves how to do it when they grabbed an early lead in Sunday's FA Cup third-round clash at St James' Park, so Wolves should have enough quality to grab a consolation in a likely defeat.

Alexander Isak to score anytime - 4/5

Swedish striker Isak has been in red-hot form for Newcastle, netting nine goals in his last seven Premier League appearances, as well as against the Gunners last Tuesday.

His movement and clinical finishing make him a constant threat to opposition defences, and with him expected to shake a off a knock, he'll relish facing a Wolves backline that has struggled all season.

Isak scored in Newcastle's win over Tottenham last weekend and also found the net against Wolves earlier this season.

With his confidence high and his team creating plenty of chances, the 25-year-old is an excellent pick to get on the scoresheet again.

Half with Most Goals - 1st Half - 2/1

Newcastle have been getting off to some fast starts in the Premier League with the Magpies recently 2-0 up before 20 minutes had been played at Old Trafford.

That ended the scoring, however, as Howe reined in his full-backs and asked his wingers to tuck in more in a bid to secure the result.

The Englishman's pragmatism, together with Newcastle's superb game management tactics, have helped Wednesday's hosts shut several games down when they have been leading.

They did the same when 2-1 up at half-time against Tottenham recently and, when there was an opportunity to rack up a hatful of goals against Ipswich before Christmas, Newcastle seemed content with four for the final 40 minutes of the game.

Backing the first half to have more goals than the second half seems a good option with the home side in their current mood.

Four of Newcastle's last six Premier League matches have featured more goals before the break than after it, while three of Wolves' last four have also seen higher-scoring first halves.
