Arsenal are playing catch-up in the Premier League title race after a frustrating couple of weekends so will be looking to return to winning ways at mid-table Newcastle.
It was almost exactly a year ago when Newcastle put a spoke in the Gunners' title charge by controversially beating them 1-0 on Tyneside, though they go into this game on a five-match winless run in the league.
Arsenal to win - 9/10
Arsenal head north to Tyneside to take on Eddie Howe's Newcastle, desperate for the win which will reignite their title challenge.
Going along serenely up until a fortnight ago, a 2-0 defeat at Howe's former club Bournemouth and a 2-2 home draw with Liverpool have seen the Gunners lose precious ground to both the Reds and Manchester City at the top of the table.
Between those two results was a largely uninspiring 1-0 win against Shakhtar Donetsk in the UEFA Champions League as Arsenal go through a flat phase.
Clearly injuries and suspensions are playing a part but Mikel Arteta needs his team to find some form again and it won't be easy at St James' Park.
It's true that Newcastle aren't currently going well having got off to a solid start but they will always be a threat, especially at home.
Twelve months ago they defied the odds by beating Arteta's title challengers 1-0 courtesy of a hotly-disputed Anthony Gordon goal.
They went on to finish seventh in the league to miss out on Europe but are now a disappointing 12th after a torrid few weeks.
Everything was going well when coming from behind to win 2-1 at Wolves in the middle of September. However, since then they have lost 3-1 at Fulham, drawn 1-1 against Manchester City and 0-0 at Everton, and lost their last two - 1-0 at home to Brighton and 2-1 at Chelsea.
Only three Premier League clubs have scored fewer goals than the Magpies.
They did score two in midweek in a 2-0 win against Chelsea in the last 16 of the EFL Cup, the same night as Arsenal were winning 3-0 at Preston.
Mikel Merino Over 0.5 Shots on Target - 13/8
Injuries and suspensions forced Arteta's hand against Liverpool where he chose to play Thomas Partey at right-back, Ben White in central defence, adopt a slightly different formation and hand just a second start and third appearance to Mikel Merino.
The Spanish midfielder did not let his manager down playing alongside Declan Rice in the engine room.
Merino was everywhere and with two shots and four fouls looked adept at both sides of the game.
One of his shots gave Arsenal a 2-1 lead, a lead they couldn't hold on to, but he looked a major threat from set plays and that remains a key weapon in the Arsenal armoury.
Merino looks to have settled in nicely and has to be a betting option at 13/8 to have another shot on target.
Newcastle Over 2.5 Cards - Evs
Mikel Arteta regarded last November's 1-0 loss at Newcastle as a major turning point in a season which saw them narrowly miss out on the big prize of the Premier League title.
The Gunners were unbeaten when they arrived at St James' Park, only to lose 1-0 to a controversial Anthony Gordon goal which had VAR checking numerous potential incidents.
An apoplectic Arteta was enraged when the goal stood, his post-match rant the final seething part of a drama that was full of action.
Gordon collected one of five Newcastle yellow cards handed out by referee Stuart Attwell as the Toon gamely held on against a tidal wave of pressure.
The atmosphere will be electric and it's likely that Newcastle will be putting their bodies on the line once again. Take a look at the Team Cards market and back Newcastle to have Over 2.5 at Evs.
