As Newcastle United strive to make the next step in an undoubtedly exciting project, the question has been posed as to whether they need to make improvements in the right-wing area.
A name who is repeatedly emerging as a potential target for Newcastle in the summer transfer window is Bryan Mbeumo.
Luke Edwards of The Telegraph is reporting that “Newcastle United hold a strong interest in signing Brentford winger Bryan Mbeumo” and “Eddie Howe has long been a fan."
While the top four contenders clearly admire the Cameroonian forward, it has also been suggested that the “£60m valuation could be a stumbling block.”
It’s no surprise to see that one of the league’s highest performing sides are toying with the idea of introducing Mbeumo.
The 25 year old has epitomised consistency since arriving in the Premier League. 11, 17, 15 and 24* goal involvements in four respective league campaigns for the Bees, but it’s his phenomenal 2024/25 term that has stood out the most.
The departure of Ivan Toney begged the question as to whether Brentford would have enough to avoid relegation, and they have done so comfortably.
While Thomas Frank’s side’s success can’t solely be attributed to Mbeumo, a large percentage of it can. Involved in approximately 41% of Brentford’s goals up to now, the Cameroonian has been relentless alongside forward partner Yoane Wissa.
The fine form of Jacob Murphy and Harvey Barnes, whilst also possessing quality in the form of England international Anthony Gordon, may dissuade Newcastle from pursuing the signing of Mbeumo should the fee demanded appear too high.
Aged 25, there will likely be no desperate rush for Mbeumo to move on from Brentford if there are no potential suitors.
Bees boss Thomas Frank hinted at the potential sale of the winger when speaking to Sky Sports, suggesting that Brentford are “a selling club” and that the club may be “open” to selling Mbeumo for the “right price.”
