Newcastle v Everton: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Fresh from producing a magnificent Harvey Barnes-inspired comeback to beat West Ham, Newcastle will aim to prolong their European hopes with another home victory over Everton on Tuesday in the Premier League.

The Magpies found themselves 3-1 down against the Hammers but roared back to triumph 4-3 and, while a repeat Champions League finish may prove beyond them, a top-six placing, available at 7/2, remains a possibility.

Everton have other issues. The Toffees are yet to win in the Premier League in 2024, with their last victory coming at Burnley on 16th December.

Remarkably, they still sit three points above the relegation places but are in danger of the drop and need to start producing results.

The Toffees will be looking to repeat the spirit they showed in the reverse fixture when second half goals from Dwight McNeil, Abdoulaye Doucoure and Beto sealed a 3-0 win.

Another positive for Sean Dyche is that he will not have to devise a plan to counter former Toffee Anthony Gordon, who was dismissed late on against the Hammers.

However, with Barnes netting twice off the bench at the weekend, the Magpies have another England international who could make the difference.

Newcastle v Everton betting tips and predictions

Newcastle to win - 19/20

Injuries have undoubtedly impacted Newcastle's season, and Jamaal Lascelles is the latest player to suffer a serious setback.

The skipper faces six to nine months out with an ACL problem picked up against West Ham, while Miguel Almiron also pulled up in the win over the Hammers and may miss out here.

Howe has shown creativity with his team selections and will need to do so again with Gordon also sidelined.

Saturday's win will still have given his depleted squad significant confidence, an attribute severely lacking from the Toffees' armoury.

Indecision at the back cost them in Saturday's 2-1 defeat at Bournemouth, with Dominic Solanke heading home from close range and Seamus Coleman putting through his own net.

Things are not going right for Dyche's side, with errors recurring in defence and striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin without a goal since October.

With their next two home games coming against Burnley and Nottingham Forest and a trip to Luton before the end of the season, they do have chances to pick up points.

However, that may not be the case on Tuesday, with the Magpies backed to get the victory.

Harvey Barnes anytime goalscorer - 9/4

Barnes' signing last summer from Leicester was seen as a coup for the Magpies, but injuries have curtailed his progress.

A hamstring issue meant the 26-year-old failed to make an appearance between 24th September and 3rd February when he made a scoring return in the 4-4 draw against Luton.

His minutes have been managed since then but Gordon's suspension and the other injuries that Howe is dealing with suggest he is almost certain to start against Everton.

The winger scored against the Toffees for Leicester in last season's 2-0 win at Goodison Park and, after months of frustration, will aim to build his fitness and put himself in position to make a fast start to 2024/25.

Barnes' goals against West Ham showed his all-around skill set - the first saw him beat the offside trap before finishing coolly, while the second was a dipping finish from the edge of the box.

Barnes can be blockbuster on his day and looks set to cause Everton plenty of problems.

James Tarkowski to be booked - 7/4

Both Barnes' goals saw him drift in from the left, which could spell trouble for the right edge of Everton's defence.

With central striker Alexander Isak also preferring to break in from that side of his team's attack, there is a chance for Newcastle to create overloads.

That could make James Tarkowski's channel especially busy, with Barnes and Isak adept at standing their full-back up before cutting into central areas.

The 31-year-old has been booked seven times this season, including at Bournemouth and he could play himself into referee Tony Harrington's notebook.
