Netherlands v Turkey Prediction, Tips and Odds: Turkey to cause another shock

The final quarter-final at the Euros sees Netherlands take on Turkey in Berlin on Saturday evening.

The Oranje, coached by one of their country's Euro '88 winners, Ronald Koeman, did enough to beat Poland 2-1 in their opener, were unlucky to only draw 0-0 against France and finished third in Group D after losing 3-2 to Austria.

Their best performance came in beating Romania 3-0 in the last 16 and they now face a Turkey side who beat Georgia 3-1 and Czech Republic 2-1, either side of a 3-0 defeat to Portugal.

That was good enough for second in Group F and they caused a shock by upsetting in-form Austria 2-1 in the last-16.

Turkey to win and both teams to score - 9/1

Turkey let everyone down at the last Euros, belying their pre-tournament billing as dark horses by losing all three of their Group A matches.

They were less fancied coming into this competition, but wins over Georgia and the Czech Republic almost covered up their defeat to Portugal.

Montella's side were then excellent against Austria and seem to thrive on chaos.

Chaos is a word that has followed the Dutch in previous tournaments and, after doing enough against Poland, being unlucky against France and awful against Austria, they looked a far more complete side against Romania.

However, the Tricolorii midfield lacked the pace and penetration to punish the Dutch engine room, an area that has been problematic due to the absences of Frenkie de Jong, Teun Koopemeiners and Marten de Roon.

In contrast, Turkey can recall captain Hakan Calhanoglu after suspension and the Inter Milan star could dominate that area and set his side up for victory in an open game.

The Crescent-Stars' speed in transition will surely worry Koeman and they are well-equipped to come out on top.

Turkey to score first - 9/4

Scoring first has been key for the Turks, doing so in all three of their wins at the tournament.

With an estimated 250,000 Berliners also identifying as Turks, the Olympiastadion may feel like a home ground and the crowd will be right behind them.

Conversely, the Dutch looked nervous in their previous outing in the capital, conceding an early goal in their defeat to Austria, while the Poles also netted after 16 minutes in Hamburg.

The roar Turkey run out to will provide extra energy and after scoring less than a minute into the game against the Austrians, they could strike early again.

Hakan Calhanoglu - over 1.5 fouls - 11/8

While his team's youngsters Arda Guler and Kenan Yildiz have caught the eye with their skill and direct running, skipper Calhanoglu is a more languid character, happy to cruise around the field and let the ball do the work.

His return from suspension should give his side more control in possession, but his transformation from attacking midfielder to deep-lying playmaker since joining Inter in 2021 also means he can find himself in the firing line when it comes to stopping opposition counter-attacks.

As suggested by his previous suspension, Calhanoglu is not averse to bringing opponents down.

The 30-year-old has made five fouls in three tournament outings and is a good price to commit over 1.5 infringements on Saturday, especially if the game starts to open up as expected.
