The Netherlands will have to be on their guard when they host an Iceland side that just beat England when they meet in Rotterdam on Monday night.
With Euro 2024 edging ever closer, the Netherlands will be looking to finish their pre-tournament friendlies on a high when they host Iceland on Monday night in Rotterdam.
The Dutch will head into this game on a high after a 4-0 win over Canada but they will certainly be respectful of a resilient Icelandic outfit.
Not for the first time, Iceland got the better of England in their last outing, winning 1-0 against Gareth Southgate’s side at Wembley.
The Three Lions squandered good chances in that encounter in London and the Dutch will be determined not to make the same mistake when they face Iceland at Stadion Feijenoord in Rotterdam.
Netherlands to win and both teams to score - 13/8
The Netherlands have surprisingly lost both of their last two meetings with Iceland and will be looking to put the record straight on Monday night.
Iceland will certainly be no pushovers and their win over England last time out will make the Dutch acutely aware of the challenges they will face in Rotterdam.
The victory at Wembley was also a result that will add to the disappointment in Iceland that their men’s national side will not be taking part in the Euros this summer in Germany.
Iceland looked to be on their way to Euro 2024 but squandering a one-goal lead, they ended up losing their play-off against Ukraine.
As for the Netherlands, they head into Monday’s game on the back of five wins in their last six games.
Considered one of the dark horses for the competition on German soil this summer, head coach Ronald Koeman and his side will be happy to go a little under the radar for the moment.
The Dutch took a while to get going against Canada last time out and had to wait until Memphis Depay struck in the 50th minute to open the scoring.
Iceland will look to take advantage of any potential sluggish start from the Netherlands and should fancy their chances of getting on the scoresheet at some stage.
However, the Dutch are a team on a roll and, over the course of 90 minutes, they should claim the victory before making the short trip over the border to Germany for the Euros.
Half Time/Full Time - Iceland/Netherlands - 16/1
Iceland have opened the scoring in four of their last five games and they are more than capable of producing another strong start in Rotterdam on Monday.
The Nordic outfit stunned the crowd at Wembley with Jon Dagur Thorsteinsson’s goal in the 12th minute and the visitors will be looking for a similar start at Stadion Feijenoord.
With their quality across the park and clinical finishing up front, the Netherlands have the ability to get themselves back on top, should they go behind.
Given Iceland’s strong record of late in scoring the opening goal in games, there’s certainly value to be had with the visitors leading at the break but for the Netherlands to claim the victory at odds of 16/1.
Wout Weghorst to score anytime - 8/5
Scoring in three of the Netherlands’ last five games, Wout Weghorst is certainly a man in form for his country right now.
The 31-year-old forward looks to be in the shop window after loan spells at Besiktas, Manchester United and Hoffenheim.
Still owned by Burnley, Weghorst is unlikely to settle for playing in the Championship next season and every opportunity on the field gives him a chance to impress potential suitors.
Even if he does not start from the off, the 6ft 6in striker can make an impact off the bench and his aerial presence will give the Icelandic defence plenty to think about.
Considering his recent form for his country, Weghorst at 8/5 to score anytime is worth considering.
