Netherlands v France Prediction, Tips and Odds: Leipzig showdown set to end all-square

Netherlands and France both won their opening Euros games and now the two big guns in Group D square off in Leipzig in what should be fiercely-competitive clash.

France are expected to be without star striker Kylian Mbappe after he broke his nose in the 1-0 win over Austria, so the Dutch, who saw off Poland 2-1 in their opener, may sense an opportunity to pick up a vital point.

France are 6/5 to win, the draw is 12/5 and a victory for the Netherlands is available at 9/4.

Draw - 12/5

Much-fancied France laboured somewhat to just a 1-0 win over a spirited Austria in their first game and now they will be tested by a talented Netherlands side.

France remain among the outright favourites to win the tournament and rightly so with a squad containing players of the calibre of William Saliba, N’Golo Kante, Antoine Griezmann and Mbappe - to name just four.

They will likely be hoping to build momentum as the competition progresses in order to peak at the right time in Germany but they will have to guard against a dangerous Dutch outfit as they look to justify the pre-tournament hype.

Les Bleus got the better of Netherlands in qualifying for Euro 2024, finishing four points ahead of the Dutch when they were paired in the same group, beating them home and away.

However, the key difference for this game compared to back then is that Mbappe is set to miss out.

The forward scored four of the six goals they put past Ronald Koeman’s side during qualifying, so without him France are obviously less dangerous.

With the recent Real Madrid signing set to sit this huge Group D tie out, Koeman will sense his side have a chance of at least a draw.

The Dutch were very good in the first half against Poland, despite falling behind, carving out multiple opportunities, before they eventually equalised through a deflected effort from Cody Gakpo, who looked particularly sharp.

They left it late to find the winner through sub Wout Weghorst but they were deserved victors over the Poles, winning the shot count by 21 to 12, while they also had 44 touches in the opposition box compared to Poland’s total of just 17.

Cody Gakpo over 2.5 shots - 7/4

Gakpo was the pick of the Dutch forwards in their first game, with the Liverpool man seeing plenty of the ball out wide as he looked to get at the Polish defence.

Gakpo was not shy at shooting in and around the penalty area either as, in total, he had five shots. Of those efforts, two were on target, including his goal, which was deflected into the net.

The form he showed against Poland mirrored his end-of-season performances for the Reds as Gakpo had an impressive total of 21 shots in his last five club games, including eight against West Ham, five versus Wolves and four against Fulham.

With those recent stats in mind, at 7/4 to have at least three shots against the French, the 25-year-old stands out in the market.

Denzel Dumfries to be booked - 7/2

Denzel Dumfries is asked to get forward down the right for Holland, while also having to do his duties defensively and he could get caught out against France.

Dumfries gave away two fouls against Poland but didn’t receive a card, but he is set to come up against the likes of Marcus Thuram, Griezmann and Ousmane Dembele on Friday evening.

Therefore, it would not be too much of a surprise to see him in trouble with the referee at some point in Leipzig.

Dumfries has picked up eight bookings and been sent off once for his country, so he is not shy at getting involved.

His red card came on an equally high-profile occasion when he was involved in a confrontation with some Argentina players after his side were knocked out of the World Cup in 2022 in Qatar on penalties.
