Motherwell and Rangers face off at Hampden Park in Glasgow on Sunday in the second Scottish League Cup semi-final.
Motherwell have won this competition once in their history, way back in the 1950-51 season, while Rangers are the defending champions and have a record 28 Scottish League Cup titles to their name.
Gers lost out to Aberdeen in midweek and come into this tie in mixed form, with three wins and three losses in their last six across all competitions. Motherwell won at Dundee United in their own midweek assignment, but lost their previous two games.
Both Teams To Score @ 4/5
Rangers are the clear favourites in the match betting and rightly so. The Glasgow giants have a fantastic record in this competition and a superior squad on paper, but the value may lie in the other markets in this cup tie.
Cup games are unpredictable and Gers are only three points above their opponents in the Premiership table, while they head into this game in indifferent form and with manager Philippe Clement under pressure.
In contrast, the Steelmen have enjoyed a decent start to the season and there is a feel-good factor around the men from Fir Park as they sit fourth in the Premiership table.
There is less pressure on them here as clear underdogs and these factors combine to suggest there is a reasonable chance they can pull off an upset.
As such, taking a chance on both teams to score looks a better play than backing Rangers to win when considering the prices.
Goals at both ends has been a bit of a feature in Motherwell’s games of late, occurring in seven of their last nine fixtures across all competitions.
Meanwhile, the Glasgow giants have conceded in four of their last six games, while they have only failed to score themselves in one of their last 10 games.
These two teams have met twice in 2024 and both teams scored in both of those games, while both teams have scored in 11 of the last 14 competitive meetings between these two sides in a run stretching back to September 2020.
Tawanda Maswanhise To Score Anytime @ 13/2
With both teams being backed to score, it makes sense to try and find a scorer from each side and, as an outside chance, Tawanda Maswanhise stands out among the Well squad.
The 21-year-old Zimbabwean has been in and out of the starting line-up this season, but his exploits in the midweek win over the Terrors may have been enough to convince Stuart Kettlewell to hand him a starting spot on Sunday.
Maswanhise scored twice at Tannadice to open his account for the season and put in a Man Of The Match performance.
That stellar showing could well be the turning point in his season after he initially struggled to settle following his summer arrival, and he may be able to build on that with another scoring display against the heavyweight Gers.
Tom Lawrence to score anytime @ 2/1
Rangers may be without leading scorer Vaclav Cerny as he missed the loss to Aberdeen in midweek, while fellow forward Cyriel Dessers is going through a rough spell and has gone eight games without a goal.
That opens up the chance to look for alternative scorer options at bigger prices and at 2/1 Welshman Tom Lawrence has plenty of appeal.
The 30-year-old has a reasonable three goals in eight Premiership games, but has especially enjoyed the cup competitions, scoring in each of his last two UEFA Europa League outings.
Lawrence is a man in form with three goals and an assist in his last five appearances across all competitions and could prove to be the danger man in Sunday’s last-four tie.
