Motherwell v Celtic: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Celtic's reward for a fine UEFA Champions League campaign to date is a double-header with Bayern Munich later in the month but they still have business to attend to domestically, including a trip to Motherwell on Sunday.

The Bhoys start the weekend 10 points clear of Rangers, who host Ross County, and also have a game in hand on the Gers, but will be keen to maintain their momentum before taking on the German giants.

Motherwell have lost their last four in all competitions and boss Stuart Kettlewell stepped down this week amid growing concerned about the strain his role was having on his family.

They are still fifth in the Scottish Premiership standings but are winless in 33 meetings with Celtic, stretching back to December 2015.

Brendan Rodgers' side look a far superior outfit and should collect all three points with something to spare.

Motherwell v Celtic betting tips and predictions

Celtic to win and over 3.5 goals - 5/4

The Bhoys' record against Sunday's hosts is further gilded when you consider they have won their last 10 trips to Fir Park.

They continue to be the class act north of the border and Rodgers will have been encouraged by their European performances, eventually finishing 21st in the league phase table.

Wednesday's 4-2 defeat at Aston Villa saw them recover from 2-0 down to pull back to 2-2 before the Premier League outfit pushed through to get the result that secured their direct passage to the last 16.

Bayern will be tough opponents, but Villa beat them at home earlier in the campaign and Parkhead will be rocking when they visit next Wednesday.

Before that, Celtic need to maintain their domestic form and may feel they have a point to prove, having won just one of their last four away games in the league, most recently drawing 3-3 at Dundee.

Motherwell are unbeaten in their last four at Fir Park, recording wins over Dundee United and Aberdeen, as well as draws with Kilmarnock and Rangers.

However, with their last four games having been on the road, that stat somewhat masks the fact that they have won just one of their last nine and they have had a tough week with Kettlewell departing. Former assistant Stevie Frail has been placed in temporary charge, and he will be charged with motivating his players for this stern examination.

Celtic's record in this fixture is outstanding and they can record another entertaining victory.

Adam Idah first goalscorer - 7/2

Kyogo Furuhashi's departure to Rennes has given Adam Idah a chance to become an undisputed starter and he grabbed both of Celtic's goals at Villa Park.

The 23-year-old has always had quality but struggled to establish himself first at Norwich and now Celtic, which has hampered his development.

This could be his big chance, and at 23 the Irish international still has the attributes to become a star.

Idah scored the final goal on his team's last trip to Fir Park, a 3-0 win in October, and also netted a brace at the ground as they triumphed 4-2 in February 2024.

With him expected to start and only 20/21 to score at anytime, he is worth backing to break the deadlock.

Liam Gordon to be booked - 15/4

Home defender Liam Gordon received a late red card, upgraded from a yellow by VAR, for a lunging tackle on Idah in that October defeat.

Gordon has otherwise been relatively well behaved, receiving only two further yellow cards.

Like Idah and scoring goals at Fir Park, history could repeat itself and the 29-year-old is expected to start.

Idah has already shown he could have too much pace for Gordon and another run-in with the referee could follow.
