Turkey enjoy a two-point gap ahead of Wales in Nations League Group B4 so a win in Montenegro in their final game on Tuesday will be enough to confirm their promotion.
The home side have lost their last seven matches and scored just once in their five Nations League outings, while Vincenzo Montella’s visitors have lost just one of their last eight, which was their 2-1 quarter-final defeat to the Netherlands at the Euros.
Turkey to win to nil -13/8
Turkey's promotion into the A section of the Nations League was delayed on Saturday when striker Kerem Akturkoglu missed a late penalty in an otherwise dull goalless draw with Wales, but Montella's team should have few problems in seeing off Montenegro in their final game.
Turkey have yet to taste defeat in Group B4 and posted a 1-0 win over Robert Prosinecki’s side in October.
That may look like a tight game, but their opponents have taken poor form into the competition this autumn and have lost all five of their matches.
They have scored just one goal in the group and need to pick themselves up from a 2-0 defeat to Iceland on Saturday, so it is understandable that they could complete their campaign with a whimper.
Their opponents have boosted their standing in European football after a strong performance at last summer’s Euros, where a Mert Muldur own goal condemned them to a 2-1 quarter-final defeat to the Netherlands.
That has been the only loss they have suffered in their last eight games and the motivation to seal promotion in style should ensure Montenegro are kept at arms length when the pair face off in Podrogica.
Kerem Akturkoglu anytime scorer - 15/8
Akturkoglu will be ruing the chance he missed from the spot against Craig Bellamy’s Wales on Saturday, but his form this season suggests he is capable of bouncing back on Tuesday.
A successful penalty would have taken his tally in this season’s Nations League to five after he scored four goals in two matches against Iceland, including a hat-trick in a 3-1 home victory.
He has also scored five goals in seven league appearances since he secured a move to Benfica from Galatasaray at the end of the August transfer window and he has also made a strong impression in the UEFA Champions League with goals against Red Star Belgrade, Atletico Madrid and Feyenoord since moving to Portugal.
It seems that Saturday’s small setback should not affect a player who tends to play in a more advanced role for his country and he looks a decent price to emerge from that disappointment by finding the net against the Group B4 whipping boys.
Baris Yilmaz to be booked - 11/4
One player who seems to have a strong chance of getting booked in Tuesday’s game is Turkey utility man Baris Yilmaz, who has committed a total of 11 fouls in three Nations League appearances.
He was sent off in the goalless draw against Wales in Cardiff in September when he committed five of those indiscretions and he was pulled up four times against the same opponents when they played out another scoreless game at the weekend.
He has committed more than one foul in seven of his last eight appearances for Turkey and his club Galatasaray and he can once again be expected to be in the thick of the action.
