MK Dons and Chesterfield were expected to be in the thick of the fight for promotion from League Two this season and both clubs are in decent shape heading into their clash at Stadium MK on Tuesday.
The Dons made a slow start to the season but have made rapid strides under new manager Scott Lindsey, winning their last five league games to climb to sixth in the table.
National League champions Chesterfield have not taken League Two by storm on their return to the EFL this season, but they are also handily placed for a promotion push in eighth place.
MK Dons to win - 29/20
This is the toughest test MK Dons have faced in their current climb up the standings, but they look capable of collecting a sixth home win of the season.
The Dons have beaten Morecambe, Accrington, Grimsby, Swindon and Cheltenham, with the ninth-placed Mariners being the highest-placed opponents they have met in that run, but they have won with both teams scoring in all three home matches since a 1-0 defeat by leaders Port Vale six weeks ago.
It is not as if the Dons have forgotten how to lose, as they have also had defeats to AFC Wimbledon in the FA Cup and League One Leyton Orient in the EFL Trophy.
However, the Wimbledon game can partly be excused due to the intense nature of that fixture and their bid to rally was hampered by the dismissal of midfielder Connor Lemonheigh-Evans, while Lindsey fielded a much-changed line-up in the Trophy fixture.
The Dons have won five of their nine home league games, with only two defeats, while Chesterfield have picked up four of their six League Two victories on the road.
Even so, the away side's form has been patchy and recent league defeats to bottom-half sides Accrington and Harrogate Town do not read well, even if Saturday's 2-0 away loss to League One Exeter in the FA Cup can be excused.
Milton Keynes are looking to win a sixth consecutive league game for the first time since 2015 and they should prove to be up to the task.
Over 2.5 goals & both teams to score - 1/1
Both these teams have tended to dominate possession in their recent matches, so it will be interesting to see which midfield comes out on top, or if either manager would be happy to sit back more and hit on the counter-attack.
Neither boss is known for taking a negative approach, though, and there should be goals at both ends as two of the top three highest-scoring teams in the division go head to head.
The Dons have scored eight goals and conceded four in winning their last three home matches and there have been over 2.5 goals in six of their last seven fixtures in all competitions, with five of them having four or more goals.
There have been three or more goals in 15 of the Dons' last 20 home games and they have not kept a clean sheet in any of their last nine outings in front of their own fans.
Spireites games have produced even more goals, with 50 balls hitting the net in their 17 league matches.
They are the highest away scorers in League Two, although more than half of their 19 goals on the road came in a 5-0 win at Crewe and a 5-2 success at Morecambe.
The away side have kept only one clean sheet in their last eight matches and there have been over 2.5 goals in their last five away league games.
Alex Gilbey anytime goalscorer - 11/4
Alex Gilbey has relished his role playing just behind the strikers for MK Dons this season and is the club's leading scorer with seven goals in 16 league games.
He is a fair price to get on the scoresheet again in what could be an open contest given that he has found the net in his team's last four league matches.
Midfielder Liam Kelly returned as a second-half substitute in the Dons' latest game after missing three matches due to injury, adding further creativity to the home line-up.
Gilbey's first-minute strike in the 2-1 home win over Accrington was the only time he has scored the first goal of a match this season, so an anytime goalscorer bet is preferred.
