Millwall v Oxford United: Tips, Predictions and Odds

Gary Rowett will be looking to get one over on his former employers when he takes Oxford United to The Den to face Millwall on Wednesday.

The U’s have won both games since Rowett took over as boss but their away record leaves a lot to be desired, as they have taken just two points from a possible 30 on their travels this term.

Millwall have been dealing with the departure of Neil Harris and the mid-table side will welcome Alex Neil to the club for his first game in charge.

Millwall v Oxford United betting tips and predictions

Under 1.5 goals - 7/4

Goals have been a real issue for Millwall this season, as no team has scored less than their tally of 22.

Millwall’s star summer signing, Macaulay Langstaff has managed just one goal in 22 games and only two of their players have netted more than twice in the league.

A solid defensive record has been the main thing saving the Lions from getting dragged into a relegation scrap, with only the top three and West Brom conceding fewer goals than their 20.

Visiting manager Rowett has done a solid job of turning the tide for Oxford since taking charge, recording back-to-back wins against Cardiff City and Plymouth Argyle.

Beating teams around you is crucial in the relegation battle and the U’s have done just that in their last two outings.

This game against Millwall does represent a step up but the Lions’ lack of fluency has been clear to see this term.

Nine of the hosts’ last 13 games have produced one goal or fewer and this could be the latest to follow suit.

With both teams having new managers in the dugout, it will take some time for the pair to get their respective styles of play across and this could be a disjointed affair as a result.

Oxford have netted just seven goals on the road all season and against the lowest-scoring team in the division, under 1.5 goals landing looks like a real possibility.

Ryan Leonard to be shown a card - 10/3

This contest will be referee Ruebyn Ricardo’s first ever match in the Championship and there will be a certain amount of pressure on him as a result.

He dished out eight yellows twice in his last four EFL matches so this could be a card-heavy clash and it’s worth taking Millwall defender Ryan Leonard to be cautioned.

The 32-year-old has picked up seven yellows this term, the most of any Lions player, and he looks a prime candidate for another as the right-back is likely to line up against tricky youngster Tyler Goodrham.

Elliott Moore to be shown a card - 15/4

Oxford captain Elliott Moore has been an integral part of the first-team this season, setting the tone for the rest of the team.

However, the 27-year-old can fall foul of the referee with his tough-tackling nature and he has received six cautions in 19 league appearances.
