Millwall v Lincoln City Prediction: 7/5 Lions to grind out the win

A bright start to the season has been forgotten for Millwall fans after just one Championship win in five games for Alex Neil's side.

The Lions suffered a late midweek loss against Swansea City at The Den but have a chance to redeem themselves on their own patch when Lincoln City come calling on Saturday.

The Imps were hit for six by West Ham United in midweek, their third straight loss in the Championship, and now have suspension worries to face after that ill-disciplined encounter.

Millwall v Lincoln City Prediction

Best Bet: Millwall to Win & Under 3.5 goals @ 7/5

Lincoln came up as champions from League One last season and have held their own so far in the second tier, gaining wins over Bolton, Preston and Bristol City – all on their travels and by 1-0 scorelines.

They head for The Den after suffering a third straight loss as West Ham thumped in six at Sincil Bank in midweek. The hosts were hindered by early red cards for Tom Hamer and Conor McGrandles in the first half and now must deal with reorganising in defence and midfield as that duo begin suspensions.

Millwall started with wins over Bristol City and Norwich City in August but the Lions have managed just two league wins in seven since.

They did record successive 2-2 draws with promotion contenders Middlesbrough and West Ham before the international break and returned with a 1-0 win over Preston.

They were beaten here by a late Swansea goal in midweek in a contest where both sides allowed chances to slip by.

With Lincoln having to make changes and the Imps scoring just seven Championship goals in 10 games, a low-scoring home win is forecast.

Alternative Bet: Under 4.5 cards @ 8/11

Lincoln were left exposed by those red cards in midweek. Hamer saw red after just 160 seconds for a reckless challenge, while McGrandles denied a goalscoring opportunity midway through the half.

There were no other Lincoln cautions in that game and the Imps have averaged only 2.3 per game in the league.

Millwall have six yellow cards in four home games, though three of those came in the loss against Swansea. Neil's side have just 16 bookings in 10 Championship games and this contest may come in under five cautions.

Lincoln are starting to find it tougher in the Championship and the suspensions are going to make things even more testing. Millwall are expected to be in the play-off picture and can get back on track with a win on home soil.

Corner counts are typically in double figures in games featuring these teams in the Championship, with Lincoln averaging 11.50 and Millwall 11.80.

First half goal concessions have been at a premium. Lincoln have leaked just one before half time in five league games, while for Millwall it is one in six.

Camiel Neghli has made a bright start to this season for Millwall with three league goals already. The Algerian also has two assists through 10 games and is on course to better the tallies he set during his first full season in English football.
