Middlesbrough v Norwich: Tips, Predictions and Odds

Norwich will be hoping to break into the Championship play-off positions on Wednesday when they pay a visit to the Riverside Stadium to take on Middlesbrough.

The hosts, by contrast, have found themselves slipping down the ladder after an atrocious run of form and they will be desperate to claim just their second win in their last eight matches.

Middlesbrough v Norwich betting tips and predictions

Norwich to win - 2/1

Norwich have not beaten Middlesbrough since a 1-0 win away from home in November 2020 but Wednesday marks the perfect opportunity to end that run when they visit the Riverside to take on a home team in dire straits.

Boro lost 2-0 at Stoke on Saturday as they sunk to 14th place in the Championship table. Their only win in their last eight competitive games was a shock 2-1 victory away to league-leaders Leicester, with five of the remaining seven matches ending in defeat for Michael Carrick’s side.

While Middlesbrough have been in free fall, Norwich have made steady progress in their quest to climb up the ladder and find themselves on the brink of a top-six berth heading into this midweek clash.

The visitors beat Boro’s rivals Sunderland on Saturday to leave them seventh in the table, just a point adrift of the play-off positions as we approach a crucial stage of the season. That victory extended the Canaries’ unbeaten run to six matches in the Championship and they have won four of these, scoring an impressive 14 goals in the process.

The Riverside faithful have witnessed just one win in the Championship since the start of December and have seen their side lose five times in those eight home games, including successive defeats to Bristol City and Plymouth recently.

As many as six players will be missing through injury for the hosts and, with Norwich in excellent form, back the away side to add to Boro’s woes on Wednesday.

Josh Sargeant to score anytime - 9/4

Norwich star Jonathan Rowe, who has scored 12 goals this season, remains out injured for the Canaries but Josh Sargeant can step up to the plate again and make the difference against Middlesbrough.

The 24-year-old scored 13 goals in 39 Championship appearances last season but is just two goals off matching that tally, despite only taking part in 15 league matches this term.

He scored the winner against Sunderland at the weekend to make it six goals in his last six appearances for Norwich and he has a good personal record against Middlesbrough, scoring in both of his previous appearances against them.

Both teams to score - 8/13

Middlesbrough may have failed to find the net against Plymouth and Stoke in their last two matches but the struggling hosts should at least get on the scoresheet against a Norwich side that have been leaky at the back this season.

The Canaries have conceded 51 goals in 35 games this season, with only one team in the top 14 of the Championship letting in more. They have kept just two clean sheets in their last 12 league assignments and they have not produced a shut-out away from home since an August thrashing of Huddersfield, with that being their only away clean sheet of the season.

Middlesbrough are unlikely to keep it tight at the back, either. They have conceded in 15 of their last 16 Championship games and come up against a Norwich side in fine form, with David Wagner’s side notching 14 goals in their last six league fixtures.

With both sides conceding with regularity this season, expect an end-to-end game at the Riverside Stadium.
