One of Real Sociedad's key men in La Liga, Martin Zubimendi famously played a pivotal role in Spain's Euro 2024 triumph - replacing the influential Rodri at half-time in the final with the Ballon d'Or winner unable to continue due to injury.

Zubimendi's performances for Real Sociedad and in the Euros for his national team alerted the attention of Liverpool in the summer, with the midfielder reportedly turning down a move to Anfield in favour of remaining at his hometown club.

While Real Sociedad undoubtedly would have liked to have kept hold of the midfielder, Zubimendi is reportedly nearing a move to Arsenal.

The Basque club have been powerless in losing one of their star players, with a release clause in the region of £50m being activated by the north London club.
