Marseille v Monaco: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Marseille and Monaco lead the chasing pack behind French champions PSG and they meet in a fascinating Ligue 1 fixture on Sunday night.

Marseille v Monaco betting tips and predictions

Monaco - 8/5

Monaco and Marseille started the latest round of Ligue 1 fixtures in second and third places in the table and both clubs have had more success on the road than at home.

Roberto De Zerbi's Marseille have won six of their seven away matches in the French top flight but their five home fixtures yielded just one victory.

Marseille could be forgiven a 3-0 defeat to champions PSG, who look a cut above their domestic rivals despite Kylian Mbappe's departure to Real Madrid.

But they also lost 3-1 to Auxerre on their own patch just before the November international break and have had frustrating draws with Reims and relegation-threatened Angers.

That trend of disappointing results may continue when they host Monaco, who have won four of their five away games in Ligue 1 this term.

Adi Hutter's men beat Lyon 2-0 and Auxerre 3-0 on their first two trips of the season and scored three late goals to see off Strasbourg 3-1 on 9th November.

Another late strike was required in a 3-2 home win over Brest last time out and Monaco are full of confidence after a fine start to their UEFA Champions League campaign.

They lost 3-2 to Benfica last week, conceding twice in the final six minutes of normal time after being reduced to 10 men in the 58th minute.

However, before that setback Monaco had earned 10 points from four games including a 2-1 win over Barcelona and they can strengthen their grip on second place with a victory at Marseille.

Over 3.5 goals - 11/8

Monaco have scored 11 goals in five away matches in Ligue 1 and they may need to maintain that kind of strike-rate to claim three points at Marseille.

Both teams have scored in each of Monaco's last five league victories and over 3.5 goals was a winning bet in their last two, against Strasbourg and Brest.

Three of their five UEFA Champions League matches also featured four or more goals – this week's 3-2 home defeat to Benfica, a 2-2 draw with Dinamo Zagreb and a 5-1 win over Crvena Zvezda.

Marseille certainly have the attacking talent to contribute to the goal tally at the Stade Velodrome. Seven of their first 12 league games have produced over 3.5 goals including the last two, a 3-1 loss to Auxerre and 3-1 win away to Lens.

They conceded three goals in the first 40 minutes of October's defeat to PSG, however, and Monaco are capable of exploiting that defensive vulnerability.

Wilfried Singo to be booked - 10/3

Monaco centre-back Wilfried Stephane Singo was sent off for two bookable offences before the hour-mark of this week's UEFA Champions League clash with Benfica.

He is available to start against Marseille but looks a tempting bet to be shown another card as he faces a lively home forward line featuring Elye Wahi, Jon Rowe and Mason Greenwood.

As well as his misdemeanours against Benfica, Singo has been booked in two of his last four Ligue 1 games – in the 2-1 defeat at Nice and during a 10-minute substitute appearance against Brest.

The Ivorian international picked up eight yellow cards in 24 Serie A starts for Torino in 2022/23 and amassed eight cautions and one red card in his first league campaign with Monaco last term.
