Mansfield v Colchester: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Colchester have drawn seven of their last 10 matches and head to Mansfield knowing they need to start turning those draws into wins sooner rather than later as they sit just outside the League Two relegation zone.

A win for the U’s looks set to be a tough ask however, as the Stags are leading the way in England’s fourth division and Nigel Clough’s side look set to extend their lead at the top to seven points with a win at the One Call Stadium.

Mansfield v Colchester betting tips and predictions

Mansfield to win and both teams to score - 7/4

Mansfield have been brilliant for the majority of the season and they are finally beginning to pull away at the top of League Two, suggesting they should be too strong for the league’s third-bottom side Colchester United when the two clash on Saturday.

The Stags’ home form has been excellent of late too, with Nigel Clough’s side winning four of their last five at the One Call Stadium, and their goalscoring ability is frightening.

Mansfield have scored 19 goals in their last five home matches and put five past Bradford at Valley Parade in their latest outing last Saturday, suggesting they should have too much firepower for the lowly U’s.

However, both teams have scored in seven of the Stags’ last eight matches and Colchester could have enough to land a blow on their hosts, just as they usually do.

Ten of the last 11 meetings between the pair have seen both teams find the net and Saturday’s fixture looks sure to follow suit, with the U’s also seeing goals at both ends in four of their last five matches.

Back Colchester to find the net at the One Call Stadium, but expect the hosts to eventually prevail in an exciting affair and extend their lead at the League Two summit.

Goal before 24:00 - 5/6

A key reason for Mansfield’s continued success has been their ability to make quick starts and unsettle their opponents.

That underrated quality was on full show against Bradford last weekend, as the Stags netted three goals in the opening 20 minutes to put the game beyond the Bantams’ reach before it had even really started.

Clough’s side have scored at least one goal in the opening 24 minutes in seven of their last 10 matches, highlighting their ability to start quickly, while one of the three matches in which they did not net early, their opposition did.

Perhaps more unbelievable is the fact that Mansfield’s last 12 League Two home matches have seen a goal scored before the 24th minute, so it would be no surprise to see the Stags, or even Colchester, make a fast start at the One Call Stadium on Saturday.

Will Swan to score - 11/10

Mansfield’s front three of Lucas Akins, Davis Keillor-Dunn and Will Swan have all been in exceptional form for the majority of the season.

They are a huge reason why the Stags lead the way in League Two, and also why Clough’s side should overpower Colchester on Saturday.

Keillor-Dunn netted his side’s sole goal in the reverse fixture and is their top scorer with 19 league goals this term, but it is actually Swan who seems likeliest to find the net against the U’s.

The Stags forward has found a new gear of late, netting seven goals in his last eight matches and three in his last three outings, and could punish a Colchester defence which has failed to keep a clean sheet in 18 of their last 19 games.

Swan has proved to be a livewire in recent games, registering 23 shots in his last eight games, and he seems to love playing at home as he has netted four times in his last four appearances at the One Call Stadium.

The U’s are far from a solid defensive unit and Swan, along with Mansfield’s other brilliant attackers, looks set to put the League Two relegation candidates to the sword.
