Manchester United are yet to be beaten in their five Women’s Super League matches this season and hopes will be high that they can build on that decent start with a victory over Aston Villa at the Leigh Sports Village.
Their visitors have collected just two points from their opening six games, but they have put up a couple of strong fights against some of the fancied teams in the league, so should be positive that they can make an impression against the Red Devils.
Manchester United Women to win & over 2.5 goals - 5/4
Manchester United would have expected to finish higher than fifth in the Women’s Super League last season, so plenty of hearts will have been gladdened by the sight of them being unbeaten in their five matches so far this term.
A tally of 11 points from those matches is decent and they have shown they can mix it with the teams at the top, having earned a 1-1 draw with Brighton, who were going great guns before Friday’s 5-0 defeat at Arsenal, as well as claiming a similar result against the Gunners.
United finished last season in dismal fashion at home when they were brushed aside 6-0 by WSL champions Chelsea, but that has been the only occasion in their last nine league matches that they have lost on their own patch.
Opponents Aston Villa have had a tough start after beginning the campaign with an encouraging performance when they fell 1-0 at Chelsea.
They are still looking for their first win and they allowed a good opportunity to slip away in their second game, as they conceded a 96th-minute equaliser to Tottenham, and they haven’t come particularly close to breaking their duck since, although they did take the lead in a 2-1 defeat to league leaders Manchester City.
Four of Villa’s six matches have featured at least three goals and with over 2.5 goals being a winner in nine of United’s last 12 home games, it makes sense to expect that to happen again, while adding a home win into the equation could prove a profitable move.
Elisabeth Terland to score anytime - 13/10
Expect Elisabeth Terland to lead the charge for United as she looks to make a big impression following her summer move from Brighton.
She scored 13 goals for the Seagulls last season and while both of her goals this term came in the 3-0 victory over Tottenham, she has not been shy about trying her luck in her other appearances.
Terland has had 16 efforts on goal this term, with seven of them on target, and there looks a strong chance she will be able to add to her tally against a team that have shipped 11 goals across their six league games this season.
Rachel Daly to have over 2.5 shots - 6/4
The main Villa goal threat is likely to come from Rachel Daly, who scored 22 goals in the WSL two seasons ago, and the England striker is a reliable figure at the top of the pitch for the Midlands outfit.
She was on target in their 2-2 draw with Tottenham and scored both goals in the 4-2 defeat to Brighton, and the fact she was quiet in the recent defeats to Liverpool and Manchester City should increase her determination to be busy at Leigh Sports Village.
She had at least two shots in her four appearances before those two most recent showings - including trying her luck seven times against Spurs - so she can have at least three efforts on Sunday.
