Manchester United's season is stuttering to a conclusion and they could struggle again in their final home game against Newcastle on Wednesday.
The Red Devils were improved, but only just, in Sunday's 1-0 defeat to Arsenal but sit eighth in the standings, and even beating local rivals City in the FA Cup final may not be enough to save Erik ten Hag's job.
Injuries have undoubtedly hindered the Dutchman's cause but opposite number Eddie Howe has arguably had to do more juggling of his squad and has done incredibly well to keep Newcastle in the European shake-up.
The Magpies drew 1-1 at home to Brighton on Saturday and have a fine recent record against the Red Devils.
The hosts' ailing form and lack of confidence and cohesion make them vulnerable against Howe's team, who have a habit of cutting loose against teams who allow them off the leash.
Newcastle to win - 11/8
After their chastening 4-0 defeat at Crystal Palace, Man United's defence was less porous against Arsenal, but Casemiro, out of sorts and out of position, played Kai Havertz onside, leading to Leandro Trossard's winner. His team failed to hit back and they fell to their 19th defeat in all competitions this term.
They sit eighth in the table on 54 points, two places and three points behind the Magpies, with Chelsea alongside Howe's side on 57 points, and the Blues also have a midweek game away at Brighton.
A defeat could eliminate Ten Hag's side from the European reckoning, although the Red Devils might still qualify for continental football by winning the FA Cup.
United's floundering could benefit Newcastle, who have won the pair's last three meetings. Their Old Trafford record is poor, winning only one of their 28 Premier League trips to the ground but they triumphed 3-0 on their last visit in the EFL Cup in November.
A repeat scoreline looks unlikely at 28/1 but an away win is a real possibility.
Anthony Gordon anytime goalscorer - 7/4
Defending against pace has been a problem for United and Anthony Gordon is the type of speedster who can expose their flaws.
The winger scored the only goal in Newcastle's win in December's reverse fixture match and also netted the winner in former club Everton's 1-0 victory over United in April 2022.
Gordon will fancy himself against a home defence that has not kept a clean sheet for 10 games in all competitions.
It feels peculiar that only two of the 23-year-old's 11 goals this season have been on the road but he should relish the opportunity to stretch a lacklustre rearguard.
Casemiro to be booked - 7/4
It has been a frustrating time for Casemiro, who for all his experience, looks to have become mired in the Red Devils' malaise.
The Brazilian appears to have lost a yard or more of pace over the last six months, while he also hasn't been helped by his team's injury woes which have resulted in him regularly switching between defence and midfield.
Casemiro's poor performances have now seen him cut from the Brazil squad ahead of the Copa America and he could face more misery on Wednesday.
The 32-year-old has been booked on all three of his previous outings against Newcastle and another caution looks a real possibility if the likes of Gordon and Alexander Isak are given space on the break.
