When these two sides met at Portman Road back in November, United were at the start of what they hoped would be a bright new era under the highly-rated Ruben Amorim.

That 1-1 draw in early winter, however, is one of just 15 points the Red Devils have accumulated out of a possible 45 under their new Portuguese chief as the club's struggles have largely continued.

Amorim will remain hopeful of rectifying the 20-time English champions various issues in the long term, but a quick glance at the table sees Ipswich - playing in the top-flight for the first time in 22 years - and United only separated by three places in 18th and 15th.

That alone reveals plenty about the hosts' ongoing problems.

They approach the midweek clash having secured just one league win in their last five and, although they managed to summon a late response to come from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 at Everton on Saturday, Amorim admitted afterwards his side were so poor in the first half that they "didn't exist".

At least a home game against a side sitting second-bottom and with just three wins all season should bring some short-term relief.

United have come to life in brief spells under their new boss, notably when winning the Manchester derby at the Etihad late on 2-1 in mid-December and the spirited 2-2 draw at leaders Liverpool at the start of the year that followed soon after.

However, those moments of promise have been so few and far between that the norm for United's fans has been to sit through turgid displays - and defeats - against the likes of Wolves, Bournemouth, Crystal Palace and Brighton during a season to forget so far.

While it may not be pretty, they should be good enough to claim a win over Town, who themselves will feel they are capable of scoring, having done so in each of their last five outings in all competitions.

Bruno Fernandes has been one of United's best players this season again in a campaign of mediocrity and worse around him and the Portuguese star can once again be a stand-out performer against Ipswich.

The midfielder started the comeback against Everton with a precise free-kick and he has managed 10 goals and weighed in with 12 assists in all competitions this season.

He looks good value to stand up and be counted on Wednesday and fire in the opening goal in what the hosts hope will be a morale-boosting victory over the strugglers.

Manuel Ugarte - Over 0.5 shots - 1/1

Manuel Ugarte finally got his first United goal when he rescued a point at Everton on Saturday and the midfielder can build on that when Ipswich visit.

The Uruguay international appears to slowly be adapting to life in England and his goal at Goodison Park was reward for some slightly more progressive displays lately.

In his last six appearances, Ugarte has had six shots in total, three of which came on Saturday, and he is offering more going forward than in his early time at the club.
