Rangers have found their stride in recent weeks and will take some winning momentum into their opening game in this season’s UEFA Europa League when they travel to Allsvenskan frontrunners Malmo.
After a 3-0 hammering at the hands of rivals Celtic at the start of the month, Philippe Clement’s Rangers have responded well, with back-to-back wins over both Dundee United and Dundee in their last two games.
A trip to Swedish giants Malmo will be a challenge, but the Old Firm outfit can take heart from their hosts' poor recent record in European competition.
Rangers to win - 2/1
Rangers are still looking to reach top gear in this early stage of the domestic season but they can pull off their biggest win of the campaign to date with a first victory over a Swedish side in Europe.
The Light Blues are unbeaten in their last three away games in the UEFA Europa League, drawing at Sparta Prague, winning at Real Betis and drawing at Benfica, results that show they are no pushovers on their travels.
As for Malmo, while they are running away with the Swedish title this season, their record in the UEFA Europa League is nothing to write home about, having lost all of their last six games in the competition.
The club were hoping to secure a place in the UEFA Champions League this season but 2-0 defeats both home and away against Sparta Prague in the play-offs put an end to that hope.
Rangers can look to those games against Sparta Prague to see Malmo’s shortcomings, which are compounded by a lack of recent goals for the 2024 Allsvenskan champions elect.
Malmo have failed to score in two of their last three games and Rangers are a good price to head back to Glasgow with the three points this week.
Half Time/Full Time - Rangers/Rangers - 15/4
Looking back at their most recent games in the UEFA Europa League, Rangers tend to make strong starts away from home.
In their last two away games in this competition, at Benfica and Real Betis, the Light Blues found the back of the net within the first 10 minutes on both occasions.
With goals being an issue for Malmo, if Rangers do get ahead in the early stages, the Allsvenskan frontrunners might find it difficult to get back into the contest.
Rangers to be leading in this game at the half-time and full-time whistle is available at 15/4 and considering their ability to come out of the blocks quickly in this competition away from home, there’s value to be had there.
James Tavernier anytime goalscorer - 4/1
Just one goal away from equalling the European tally of Rangers legend Ally McCoist, James Tavernier will have some added motivation to score against Malmo on Thursday evening.
The Light Blues skipper continues to be a real goalscoring threat for the Glasgow outfit, as he found the back of the net last time out against Dundee, scoring from the penalty spot in a 3-0 win over the Dark Blues at Ibrox.
Prolific from the penalty spot and from free-kicks, set-piece expert Tavernier is good value at 4/1 to strike against Malmo and go level with ‘Super Ally’ in the club’s European goalscoring charts.
