Lyon v PSG: Prediction, Tips and Odds

French superstar Kylian Mbappe will play his last game for Paris Saint-Germain on Saturday when he bids to sign off with a Coupe de France winner's medal at Lyon's expense in Lille.

PSG are hunting down a fifth league and cup double in the past 10 years but Lyon, this season’s big improvers in Ligue 1, are likely to be no pushover.

Lyon v PSG betting tips and predictions

PSG & Both Teams to Score - 2/1

PSG thrashed Lyon 4-1 at home and away during the season, but the French Cup final at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy in Lille should turn out far closer than either of those encounters.

Luis Enrique’s Ligue 1 champions are strong 11/20 favourites against a Lyon team who will take to the pitch as 17/4 hopefuls.

That’s the price of a side who were bottom of the table at the start of December - which is precisely where Lyon were.

But since Pierre Sage was appointed boss at OL they have been transformed and, after spending Christmas fretting about relegation, they can now spend the summer savouring the prospect of a return to Europe after storming up to sixth place.

It has been an astonishing turnaround by any measure, with winter signing Nemanja Matic a critical addition to anchor their five-man midfield.

Jake O’Brien and Duje Caleta-Car have formed a supreme relationship in defence, while any number of classy wide options can be deployed either side of the reborn Alexandre Lacazette.

They have lost just four of their last 25 matches in all competitions under Sage, and it’s hard to imagine them shipping four (or worse) for a third time against PSG.

There should be goals - but at both ends. The departing Kylian Mbappe, who has scored in every round (landing first-scorer honours each time), has been on fire at the tip of an attacking unit which has swept all French opponents aside en route to another league title.

Meanwhile, Lacazette’s record since Sage turned up in Lyon is sensational.

Since a 0-0 draw with Strasbourg in this competition, OL have played 12 matches, featuring 47 goals. In the league their matches have averaged 3.1 goals a time, with PSG’s a league-best 3.4.

PSG have swept all before them this season and have another double in their sights.

They are hard to oppose no matter how well Lyon have done in the second half of season. Back the champions and both teams to score at 2/1.

Alexandre Lacazette to score any time - 12/5

Mbappe, scorer of 22 goals since the turn of the year, is 5/6 to score at any time and 11/4 to score first in the final.

In his farewell appearance for the Parisians and, having scored in every round so far, he’s a hard man to argue against.

But Lacazette, scorer of 19 goals since the start of December and clearly re-energised, is 12/5 to score at any time and that appeals more.

The 32-year-old former Arsenal striker had simply stagnated under Fabio Grosso, like the rest of the team, but has flourished under Sage.

Back him to have one last hurrah by finding the net in Lille.

Corner handicap - Lyon +1 - 21/20

When PSG went to Lyon earlier in the season and raced to a 4-1 success, it was the home side who won more corners - 5-2.

When PSG welcomed Lyon to the Parc des Princes in April, much the same happened. Luis Enrique’s men were 4-1 victors and once again it was Lyon who bossed the corner count, this time 10-4.

Over the course of the season Lyon have conceded an average of just 4.4 flag kicks per game, while PSG have given up 4.7.

If, as is quite probably the case, Lyon will be chasing the game at some point, then they could easily chalk up more corners and, at the very least, land flag-kick handicap honours.
