Lyon will be relegated to Ligue 2 this season if they do not sort out their financial issues but Pierre Sage has done a wonderful job of ensuring that does not get to his players on the pitch.
As the year draws to a close, Lyon are in contention for the top four in Ligue 1 as well as the top eight in the UEFA Europa League.
On Thursday, however, they square up against a similarly talented Eintracht Frankfurt team who are also set to advance to the competition's last 16 and a tight game could be on the cards in France.
Lyon to win by one goal - 10/3
Forgetting their issues off of the pitch, there is a lot to like about Lyon.
A 3-0 thrashing of Angers on Saturday made it four wins in their last five matches in all competitions and extended their unbeaten run to eight games.
Malick Fofana and Rayan Cherki have impressed down the flanks recently, while Alexandre Lacazette faces competition from Georgian ace Georges Mikautadze to lead the front line.
They are a team with goals in them, having scored 11 times in their last three matches, and that run began with a 4-1 victory away to Qarabag on matchday five of the UEFA Europa League.
Consequently, Lyon are in the mix for the top eight in the competition, which would secure them a spot in the last 16.
But Thursday's opponents Eintracht Frankfurt are also up there and are three points ahead of Les Gones in the UEFA Europa League standings.
Frankfurt have posted four wins from their five games in the competition and won the tournament under its old format as recently as 2022.
But while they are still not a team to be taken lightly, their recent form will understandably put off some punters.
Frankfurt lost their last road game 3-0 against Leipzig in the last 16 of the DFB Pokal before wobbling against Augsburg on Saturday in a 2-2 draw.
Their confidence will likely have taken a knock as a consequence of those results and they could be vulnerable at the Groupama Stadium, where Lyon can make home advantage count.
That said, Frankfurt's impressive performances in this season's UEFA Europa League suggest they will not go down easily and if Lyon are to win, it is unlikely to be comprehensive.
A Lyon win is priced at a reasonable 11/10 but punters can squeeze more value out of the outcome by backing the hosts to win by exactly one goal.
Alexandre Lacazette to score - 6/4
Lyon boss Sage has had the luxury of switching between Lacazette and Mikautadze as his lone striker this term but the former is expected to get the nod against Eintracht Frankfurt.
Lacazette has started recent UEFA Europa League outings on the bench but this is a key contest and he should be deployed from the start given his form this season.
The Frenchman has scored three goals in four matches in the competition, while he has struck five goals in Ligue 1, making him Lyon's top scorer in the French top flight.
Frankfurt have conceded on average one goal per game in the UEFA Europa League this season and Lacazette can capitalise on a rearguard struggling for confidence.
