Luton Town v Notts County Prediction: Palmer strike can spark 35/1 Bet Builder

Kenilworth Road should be rocking as Luton Town play their first home game of the season against Notts County on Saturday lunchtime after posting two impressive away wins to start their campaign.

The Hatters thumped League Two Gillingham 3-0 away before a tremendous comeback win against Reading, triumphing 4-3 after trailing 3-1 on Saturday.

Notts County have made a promising start after winning promotion from League Two as playoff winners last season, going out of the EFL Cup on penalties to Championship side Burnley before earning an impressive point against promotion favourites Leicester in their first league match.

Luton Town v Notts County Prediction

Best Bet: Luton Town to win @ 3/5

Luton Town had an up-and-down first season back in League One last term after relegation from the Championship, but it ended on a high note as they won the EFL Trophy and went unbeaten in their last 12 league and cup games, and they have picked up where they left off by winning their first two matches this year.

The Hatters dismissed Gillingham 3-0 in their EFL Cup first-round clash and then recorded a remarkable away triumph at Reading in the league, winning 4-3.

They should therefore have the crowd fully on their side as they take on promoted Notts County in their home opener this season and they can extend their winning streak at Kenilworth Road to make it nine victories in their last 10 games.

Notts County look to have done a fine job in retooling their squad for this season's tougher challenge but they had a major hole to fill after losing last season's top scorer, Alassana Jatta, to Portuguese side Casa Pia.

With Matthew Dennis leaving for Burton Albion and Jodi Jones linked with a move to Bromley, the Magpies will be without the three players whose goals powered their promotion campaign when they head down the M1.

To their credit, Martin Paterson's side have coped well so far, giving a good account of themselves in a 1-1 EFL Cup draw at Burnley, although they had only 26 per cent of the possession and lost on penalties, and defying the odds again to hold fancied Leicester to a 1-1 draw at Meadow Lane on Saturday.

Another tough task awaits them in Bedfordshire, however, and Luton are expected to chalk up their first home win of the season at the first attempt.

Alternative Bet: Under 2.5 goals @ 43/40

Luton have scored seven goals in their first two games but a more subdued encounter should be expected against a solid Notts County side and this may well be their first match this season with under 2.5 goals.

County's first two fixtures have been much tighter than Luton's with a pair of 1-1 draws and that is no surprise with the promoted side looking much stronger in midfield and defence than they do up front.

Their last two away matches last season were 1-0 wins and they didn't score more than once in any of their last four road trips last term.

Luton Town v Notts County Bet Builder Tip

  • Luton Town to win 2-0

  • Kasey Palmer first goalscorer

For a simple but potentially rewarding two-leg bet builder on Saturday's League One clash, take Luton to win 2-0 after Kasey Palmer opens the scoring.

As outlined above, County are likely to be able to put the brakes on Luton's free-scoring start to the season with their solid set-up and disciplined play, but the home side should still be able to get on top for a relatively comfortable success and manager Jack Wilshere would no doubt be delighted with their first clean sheet of the season.

Palmer has played the majority of his career at Championship level for Swansea, Bristol City and Coventry and the Jamaica international could be a real menace to defences in the third tier this season.

That was certainly the case when he scored Luton's second and third goals at Reading and he looks a tempting pick to open the scoring. For a lesser payout, you could take the 2-0 Luton win with Palmer to score at any time at 18/1, but with only two total goals in the forecast, the bigger reward for him to score the first goal is preferred.
