Luton Town v Norwich City: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Norwich City earned a late point on Sunday in a 1-1 draw with QPR and it could be a similar outcome when they travel to Luton Town in the Championship on New Year's Day.

The Canaries are 12th, seven points off the top six, and their bid to try and get closer to the play-off places may be further frustrated at the start of the year by the Hatters, who are 19th and only four points clear off the relegation zone.

Draw - 12/5

Luton and Norwich have endured disappointing campaigns in the Championship, with Town struggling in the lower reaches of the division following relegation from the Premier League and City unable to keep pace with the teams pushing for promotion.

Neither Rob Edwards or Johannes Hoff Thorup will be satisfied with how things have gone so far and it could be a case of more frustration for both managers on New Year's Day at Kenilworth Road.

There are just five points separating the two sides going into Wednesday's clash as both have picked up only seven wins from their 24 outings in the second tier, with the Canaries riding higher in the standings due to their nine draws.

Indeed, only three teams in the Championship have drawn more games than Thorup's men this season.

Luton, meanwhile, approach the game on the back of two straight defeats as their painful campaign back at this level continues.

On Sunday they were minutes away from a hard-earned point at Swansea before Myles Peart-Harris struck a late winner for the Welsh side and that result came swiftly after they suffered another narrow defeat on Boxing Day, losing 1-0 at Bristol City.

Their home form of late has been a lot better, though, with successive 2-1 wins over Stoke City and Derby County, and they are unbeaten in their last six at Kenilworth Road, winning four.

That should ensure they at least have some confidence for Norwich's visit and they can once again avoid defeat in front of their own fans.

Carlton Morris to score at any time - 11/4

Amid a disappointing season for Luton, Carlton Morris has enjoyed plenty of bright moments with the striker netting seven league goals so far.

The Hatters' leading scorer looks the most likely to trouble the Norwich defence on Wednesday as he comes into the game with three goals in his last five appearances.

The Luton skipper put them in front early on at Swansea on Sunday before the hosts turned things around and he's been getting plenty of shots off in and around the penalty area, suggesting more goals will be forthcoming.

The 29-year-old has had 13 shots in his last five games, with six of those being on target, and if he continues in that vein against Norwich he should get more joy in front of goal.

Borja Sainz to have over 1.5 shots on target - 2/1

Borja Sainz remains the top-scorer in the Championship with 15 goals - the Norwich star bagging five more than the next best in the division - West Brom's Josh Maja.

However, the goals have dried up for Sainz of late with his last for the Canaries coming a month ago.

Even though it's now six games without a goal for the forward, Sainz is still very active in the final third and during his recent dry patch he's amassed 11 shots, of which seven have been on target.

The Spaniard has had two shots on target in three of his last five games and overall this season he has had at least two shots on target in 11 Championship matches.

Therefore, at 2/1, Sainz appeals to have two or more shots on target again on New Year's Day.
